Ok fellas need your help. I have deciced to do a complete swap from my 350 TBI to a turn key 350 carburated. I want to know what all I will need to make this a smooth install. Im guessing because I am getting rid of the CPU I will need a new oil pressure guage and temp guage. I read that I need some kind if cable for the OD in my 700r4 tranny to work. Who makes this. And anything eles you guys know would be a big help so I can be running this spring. Thanks Jaz

This is the year 2004. Why do you want to swap your TBI for a carb???
You will not get better performance or gas milage and you will constantly have to choke the thing in the winter.

Probably because for about $5000 you can get a 500 hp turnkey crate motor. There's also the fact that parts for those engines are a dollar a dozen. ;)

Jazzy that would be a TV cable and bracket.

@ 2slow , the TBI system that came stock on that year Camaro was more of an emissions setup than a power setup. Very restrictive with no performance potential.

Because that has to be the biggest down fall of any GM motor. The factory throttle body was for gas milage and nothing more. No performance what so ever out of those things. He is on a limited budget and to tap into some thing like TPI or Multiport would be to expensive. Bang for the buck is still the carburated motor! Hell NASCAR still run carbs, whats wrong with that?

If you don´t have to care about gas mileage it´s for sure a cheap and good solution. And TBIs really s_ck - i beat one with my V6... ;)

This is true. But if you have 3 cars who cares! I didn't say that you get the best gas milage. I just think that the TBI is the worst thing that GM has ever put out. I know that Holly has a 4 barrel type one that says that it get majo HP's, I'm not from Missouri, but have to show me!

You are right. But you have to have the $$$$ to do so and they(sponsored NASCAR teams) have no problem with that. If I was to do another FI motor I would look at all the research a that Lingenfelter had to offer. The true SB chevy FI gooroo! NASCAR would have alot to learn from him(if he wasn't dead).

My car dosent see the winter. I dont have to buy gas downtown and I dont care about gas milage. I want to go fast cheap as I can get away with. So all I should need is the TV cable and bracket. And a temp and oil guage?

I am trying to think if you need anything else but drawing a blank. Why would you need a TV cable? Yours, if I am not mistaken, already has one and it is a matter of kooking it up to make it work.

Ithnk it is more of the bracket angle and where it hooks to the carb throttle for the TV cable. If that is off the proper sig to the tranny won't happen.

That is more of what I was thinking. You are right about the tranny not working proprely, you could burn up it due to inproper set up

How did this transition go?? I did this same thing with my 89 TA, going from a 305TBI to a 350 Carb setup. I got a LOT more power, but the gas mileage did drop. It all depends on how much you stomp on the gas.

I ended up with a 1970 Camaro SS 350 block, but 72 Corvette heads, and a custom exhaust. I like it.

It has had a few problems here and there, but I really like not having to deal with the computer.

Good luck with it.

Patrick

Its not in the car yet. But the motor is pretty nasty so it should be allot of fun. Hopeing to finish it by mid march.

the lockup kit is not what your looking for. the TV cable also know as throttle valve cable. part number 130-70242 from b&m on jegs. you need something like this 555-15129 and a way to connect the end of the cable to the carb. I am sure you could look at factory stuff because gm was using the 200r4 and 700r4 with carb motors. to adjust it I believe you push the button take it to full throttle then release the button and the throttle. that might be a little off. I would make sure before adjusting it like that and calling it good because like other people have mentioned having your tv cable out of adjustment can lead to tranny falure. but you would probably notice problems like it shifting early or not shifting at all when at full throttle. I will look to see if I have any pics of my engine that show how we hooked up my tv cable.

Did you find a block yet?? Where did it come from?? Or are you buying a crate engine?? Mine came from a 70 Camaro SS, and I have 1972 Corvette LT1 Heads on it. The throttle response is incredible compared to what I had with the LG4 TBI setup. Torque increase was amazing as well.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Patrick
