What are these shifters (Hurst etc) good for?
Do they prevent mis-shift?

Or is it only for quicker shifting gears?

Are there any disadvantages?

I don't think there are any disadvantages- only to the wallet! ;)

They make the shifting easier, and alot more fun! Don't get the hurst, though, get the Pro 5.0! ;) That's what I have, and I had the B&M Ripper previously, but this one is better.

I also recommend the Pro 5.0 very highly, with the Lou's Short Stick. I love mine. If you want the Lou's Short Stick, which I also recommend highly, I'd recommend getting it through Afterthoughts Auto. They have a package that saves you about $20 because they don't send the Pro 5.0 stick and the Lou's Short Stick.

I also have the LSS, and it actually makes shifting quite fun.
