Post subject: How is the acceleration with big wheels? Posted: Mon Jan 10, 2005 9:48 pm |

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying 20" rims for my Maro, 245/35 ZR20 front and 275/30 ZR20 rear. Unfortunately it's just a V6.
Do you think the acceleration will be noticeable slower?
Currently I have to stock wheels on my car.
I'm sure a lot of guys here have experience with big wheels!

20"? Why not go all the way and build a 4x4 J/K
If you can really make 'em fit, they'll probably look pretty massive ... dunno if our poor V6's can still get the car moving

Gunnar had 19" and that was already debatable but 20" is a bit too much for my taste and I guess it does not help drivability either.

I have 18", 235/40 all around...not too much diff in accel then with the 16" - but the ride is way more bumpy....

It depends on how heavy they are. If they are heavier, there will obviously be more rotating mass. I wouldn't even think of going 20s. Yuk!

Yeah dude. I agree with the previous posts.
I have 18's and they are big enough. I wouldn't think of anything any bigger

No flame intended, but why is it always the V6 cars that do the really tacky crap to a nice car. I mean, seriously, 20's on a camaro. It's supposed to be a sports car, not some sort of lowrider.

There are alot of V8 guys who do that chit too, but I can't understand why. You can bling just as much with 17s or 18s, without running on dubs.

hehe, I agree too, 20s are just too big. Might look better if you go with a body kit, but still wouldnt take bigger than 19".
19" and body kit looks kewl

I hate to say it, but you´re right Nick...
For the money for a set of 20s and appropriate tires you can nearly buy an LS1 engine Well, or at least some power mods.
The changed ratio (axle-tires), the additional rotating mass and the persistent fear of hitting the fender wells will make that car pretty slow j/k

I didn't expect that much response
I have seen a lot of 20" wheels on Camaros in the states and I really like the look. It looks massive that's true, but I also think it looks aggressive. But that's just my opinion!
Take a look at this car, but ignore the body kit and the hood!
I really like the rims!
@ChrisV6: The ratio will change just a bit, the total diameter of the wheels will be almost the same! They will cost around 3500 Euro including wheels! If I could change the engine to a V8 for that money, I would not drive a V6 anymore!

It looks "massive", true. Agressive, i don´t know.
But tastes are different.
I just wanted to say, your car won´t get any faster for sure
And i know different things to do with 3500EUR as spending it on something that makes my car even slower... j/k
I hate to ask this question, but, i guess, you have to get your car through TÜV...?

@ChrisV6: The TÜV is always a pain in the a.. But it should not be a problem, if you buy german wheels. I mean if they are ok for a BMW, why should there be a problem with a Maro?
But just a wrote, I'm "thinking" of buying 20" rims! 19" would be also great

Should work, if the TÜV guy overlooks the 5x120 and 5x120.65 difference..
(I know it works, but TÜV guys can get picky if it comes to half an milimeter difference LOL)
