That's the dilema. Never done it from the bottom and I hate doing something I've never done before. The unknown is a killer to me. Supposedly a lot easier as it's 6 bolts and disconnecting the brake lines. Is a aligment required it you take it from the bottom?

From the top more extensive w/ snatching the headers off, tranny (only if you want to), steering shaft etc...you get the picture.

Still a few months out but just thought I post something and see what the consensus was around here.

As long as you don't loosen theLower control arm bolts you are okay for the alignment.

Well that's comforting. Think I'm gonna try it out and see how it goes.

Thanks Roy!

Yep I'm back. Been back since the 20th of last month. Just been laying low and studying for MSgt. I'll break out after I test Mar 24th. I've got a car to rebuild and a roof top to make. :D

On the Mustang world its much easier down the bottom specially with LT headers.

I can take my motor out in about 2 hours, or less from start to finish.

Drop everything at once:

K-Member, Motor and Tranny!

Naz

Naz That has been always my consensus also. But I got a couple of guys telling me it is easier on the 4th gen camaros to do it from the top.

Man,

by checking under you guys hood I can not imagine how to change spark plugs on those things! Specially the LT1s!!! Half of the motor is under the firewall.

Bruce may be able to provide his .02 since he is always working on his.

On the MR2, I use the recommended platinum spark plugs, good for 100kkm ... which is a shame, as to change them there is a piece of cake ... doesn't take 5 minutes ... (OK, it's only 4 of 'em, but still ...)

Hey, I do have a Camaro, and the rear spark plugs are just as accessable as they are on the LS1 ... and I need a spark plug change, too ...

From the top is a pain. Esp if you have LT headers as they have to come off at least the driver side does anyways. You also have to remove the radiator crap as well. Seem when you pull it from the bottom NOTHING comes off.

I like the fact that from the bottom you can leave the tranny in place...well you can do that from the top too but from the top you have to remove the shifter. Not so w/ the bottom and putting it back in is way easier for me from the bottom as solid motor mounts and putting the tranny back in from the top is damn near impossble. From the bottom it just goes right in no questions asked.

You are right NAZ a nightmare w/ plugs but I can do mine in under 30mns now. :D

LS1 out the top. It is very easy and quick. did it out the bottom and had to mess with the brakes.

LT1 headers are way more of a pain than the LS1. I would do it from the bottom.
