I still like Macs as inexpensive alternative...it all depends on your budget! Especially when they cost the same as a set of shorties and offer MUCH better gains. Macs would be the perfect choice for someone just doing bolt-on mods. For a car without head work or a big cam, you probably would not notice the difference between Macs and long tubes.
If you are going to go with heads / cam you would probably be better off going with the dynotech headers. They are a few hundred dollars more, but as your mods / HP increase, so do the gains from the long tubes.
I went with the Grots because I got a GREAT deal on a used set. I would rather have dynatechs, but for the price, I couldn't say no.

Talking about probably 15 RWHP with a cam. As you get more wild with the mods, the difference is going to increase.
Macs = $500
LTs = $1200 (Dynatech excluded)
is 15 HP worth $700? I think I could find $15 HP MUCH cheaper than 700 bux.
As you add more mods though, the gain from the LTs will increase. The gain from LTs with Heads + Cam would probably be worth the $300 difference for Dynatechs.

FWIW, Hooker is coming out with a new LT header for the LS1. They were supposed to be out already, but they are not. They will be similiar to the Dynatech but will not have a slip fit collector. They obviously will not have the same quality and finish as the Dynatech either, but may be another low cost alternative. They also will not come with a Y pipe, but I believe that Mufflex has that covered as well.

There are always new things coming out...you'll spend your whole life waiting
The MACs are a very good choice and you will not be disappointed in their performance. If and when you decide to upgrade to true LTs you will not have a problem getting most of your money back. They sell like hotcakes...in fact Mac is usually back ordered on them.

Are they worth it for the LT1's? I was thinking I could get a set of hooker lt's jet-hot coated and the y-pipe for around the same $$$. Maybe even cheaper if a vendor offers a GP on cz28.

I have not really been in the LT1 scene lately, so I'm a bad person to ask...Rob could probably shed some light. Especially since he has FLP headers made by Dynatech

yup, you should be all set...you may have to have the y-pipe modified (shortened or lengthened) but nothing major. Probably a cut or 2 and about $20.00 worth of work.

Got O2 sims? If not, look on e-bay. You can usually get a set for 50 - 70 bux
