Hi,
after my little adventure with the carrera I check my oil pressure. As far as I can remember the pressure is normally in the middle of the scala when idling. Now it is there - see picture ... temp was also higher than normal; slow citydriving - racing - slow citydriving. Oil is on max.
Can this short race heaten up the oil that much (that the pressure falls), after the race it was a little more lower than on the picture. Normally I drive not in the city with the Z.
Thanks

Hm ... not 100% sure, but I think it's well over the middle on mine ...

Hmm, I read much on the fbody-sites in the states because of my planed Head/Cam-Change. All of them say, that it is advised to change the oil pump forehandedly. I asked my new garage one week ago what they bill me for the change - no answer yet. The change sounded not something I can do myself.
(I also wait for the brakes) .... oh well
Thanks Gerry

Doesn't look that complicated in the Haynes manual, though they do it with the motor removed ... from what I read on the net, it seems like the gauge is usually off, too ... maybe you should check if it's a defective gauge first ...

Ok I keep an eye on this and still wait that my garage reply.
Possible I babe her now a little to much but at present she have all my attention. I know its a she ... I think I know the signs .. she want more attention ... and more shoes - wider shoes, and more octane and ...
When she ask for a bigger radiator I gave here a bigger radiator. The oilcooler .. is ... oh well .. yes ... in the garage .... or still at SLP ... have no more feedback till now (est. 6 weeks now).
Help, I love a car...
Thanks for the clue,
Lupo

lupo,
In my Trans Am after racing I have a little lower oil pressure until the car sits for awhile. After cooling off it returns to normal. I know it's a stupid question but is the oil full on the dipstick?? Did you get a brake upgrade yet??? If not I have a brake upgrade kit that would increase the size of your stock brakes to 13in. It would come with the rotors, steel brake lines, billet brackets and pads(pads are not brand new)for $500.

Lupo, the oil pressure looks the same on my car when idling after Nuerburgring or Hockenheim laps (though your idle speed seems a bit low at 500/min???). I guess it's normal (the oil is hotter and so is thinner) and I don't have an oil cooler. Wouldn't worry too much...
Oil pump... I asked Roy who's also doing some track racing and he still has his original oil pump like me.

because of the idling ... the preowner changed the cam, but there were no datasheets ..... is that the cause?
Oilcooler ... I learned it the hard way .. this is a must and it cost nearly nothing ... I lost a BWM transmission because of overheating while streetracing .. long long ago while I am much much younger

My idle is somewhere at 500-600 too... this happened after I put the 3" exhaust. Before that, it was at about 800-900...
is that ok?

Autsch, so it is possible that when I put my borla in I am in need of a new computer-tuning to lift the idlepoint ... grrrr
No answer from my garage yet ... damn

I'd bump the idle up. No ones idle should be that low. If it was a big cam that car would shut off. 800-1000 rpm's is normal for idle unless you want it lower but then you lose vacuum etc. and initial throttle response suffers from this as well.

how do you do that? put the Idle up?
When I bought the car, I was scared bcoz it was at 800-900 eheheh
so what is the benefit of the higher idle? is that also better for 1/4 mile?

1) Use this handheld programmers like an hypertech - I do not trust this solutions
2) The GM/Opel-boys can do this with there diagnostic computers - like 1)
2) get the car to a tuner like that one in switzerland ... http://www.heinzroth.ch/sp.htm
3) Bought a computer with tuning and core exchange in the states .. they reprogramm it when U are not satisfied
More options around?
I thought it was normal that it idles at 500. Good that i asked.

Yes is running. But I also want to hear from others what they offer. I also ask Dare Devils in Reutlingen. Besides that I make my own research that I know what they try to sell me.
I will go with a 216 / 220 .525 / .532 114 LSA and the stage 1 or stage 2 heads. I want a smooth and complete solution. when they say that a more aggressive cam give no problems at the sniffer test I will get a 224 cam or so.
Head/Cam. I prefer that over turbos or chargers. Here you can wake up the ls1´s power.

I est. for var2 2500-3500Euros.
As soon as they beginn to stroke the babe with a new crankshaft this will hurt your wallet. Est 3500Euros more ... and I only estimate now. And then we come to a point where you can consider a sportsman/crate-engine with fright/shipping and core exchange for the same price.... look MTI or so ...
