i read a lot of things about cams. Now i´m thinking about one in my car. But what will be the best for me?
I have a 2000 LS1 with 6 speed manual. I have a catback system (borla) and a cold air induction package (SLP), ported maf (ok, thats like nothing) and a predator programmer.
My camaro is a daily driver, only few times quarter and slalom.
Is it better, to change springs, locks and retainers to stronger ones?
Thanks for your help

Jens,
If your going to have to pass TUV than I would recommend the TR224/224 114LSA(1700-6800rpms), that would keep you smog legal and give you performance you want. A VERY streetable cam that makes power through the whole powerband. If you went the TR224(Thunder Racing) route I'd pick up the 918 springs, Titainum retainers & locks as a whole package. By doing that you will have a very reliable package that will deliver what your looking for but still pass TUV. If you still have your Predator tuner I could send you the tune for that cam that I had in my car(for the TR224/114LSA cam). I could e-mail it to you and then you'd have to download it into your predator(very easy to do). The other Cam that makes decent power that works well is the ZO6 cam or LS1 Hot Cam(not sure if that will pass smog). Thunder Racing also has a new Cam called the "CHeaTR Cam" that is meant o work with stock exhaust manifolds & cats but put down GOOD numbers,,,almost forgot about that one.

thank you Val and also for your offer with the predator-program.
So you think, it is necessary, to change also the springs and retainers?

Jens,
If you go with anything bigger than the ZO6 cam YES....if you don't change the springs (retainers is just added security) your going to have some PROBLEMS with valve float and possibly broken valve springs.

Val: When i will take a 224/224 114 cam, do you really think, your programm will fit with my car? I think, we have some difference, for example: You have a 2001 modell, i have a 2000 engine. You have long tube headers, me not.
What do you think?

just reading much at LS1tech.com. Now i´m thinking about also changing the heads. Because it is nearly the same work. But what heads should i buy? Is it ok to buy used ones from LS1tech?
They are writing much about cnc ported 5,3 L heads. What does this mean?
I want to go in the 400 RWHP. But it must still be a daily driver, is this impossible?
What about LS6 heads? Will they be good with a good cam like 224/224 114?
Sorry for my asking, but it is so difficult to learn about LS1 here in germany.
Jens

Here is an example, what do you think, would this be a good deal?
Quote: Absolute Speed 5.7L Stage 2 heads / Proven / Like new. I am in the process of going through a nasty divorce and must sell now!!! The following ad was what was posted when I purchased the heads. I never got the chance to install on my baby. Heads only a year old w/6k miles and were taken off and Cleaned/inspected by Shane the head tech at Thunder Racing with brand new Crane dual springs and titanium retainers. They are milled .02, have 63cc chambers, Ferra 2.02/1.55 valves. They are fully assembled and ready to bolt on.
They were on an 02 Z28 which made 432/400 with a TR224 cam thru a 12 bolt and 4.10 gears and went 11.6@120mph with minimal lightening (jack, spare & back seats removed)
The heads originally cost $2300,
MY ASKING pRIce Is $1050 including shipping i will accept paypal only
These are the REAL flow numbers (don't compare this to manufacture flow number ratings which are usually BS): Flow numbers Int exh .100 68.7 56.9 .159 110.1 83.2 .200 145.8 112.5 .250 174.9 137.6 .300 200.9 154.6 .350 224.2 171.1 .400 246.2 182.6 .450 264.8 192.1 .500 281.2 198.5 .550 294.5 203.3 .600 286.4 206.6 .650 279.6 209.4 .700 282.5 211.2

With doing all that work you are definitely going to need tuning. How you do this tuning is up to you. I just recently purchased HPtuners, which by the way is a nice tuning software. I just recently pulled my heads of my car and I can tell you it’s not that difficult to do, just make sure you have a breaker bar for the head bolts. I am also taking my cam out which happens to be a 224/224 114. If you are interested let me know.

so, i read alot about heads at LS1tech.com. I think i will order some heads from Patriot Racing. I spoke with Gunnar from Patriot and asked him, witch heads would be the best for my camaro daily driver.
He said, i should take the LS6 heads, stage II, 2,02" intake, 1,57" exhaust, 59 cc. You can see this heads on this side:
http://sites.reachtheworld.tv/waterNew/ ... 4&DID=1225
I also would take the compcam 224/224 114LSA
So, what are you thinking of this modification. Would it be a good choice?

Jens,
Remember that you cam mke 400hp without changing the heads. If $$ is not a problem than go ahead and replace them. I would spend the extra and go brand new heads instead of used. The 224/114 cam with a good tune will have perfect driveability, go for it.
