No it's not my rear end... my cars rear end. The other day I replaced my right rear wheel bearing ( due to the noise it was making).. I drove it around for about a 1/2 mile and then went abck to my shop to top it off (diff fluid that is) keep in mind there were no bearing noises what so ever. AfterI topped off my differential (about 1/2 to 3/4 qt.) the origional noise came back (still sounds like my right rear bearing).... can anyone else think of somthing back there that might make the came sound as a worn bearing? Any help would be appreciated... hope to see you all in Hockenhiem if the noise stops that is!

Your Iron driveshaft will do it, does it vibrate at 110-140 MPH also? I think there was a recall on the driveshaft. I do not know if yours was eligible though. If it is not that a race could be scared from a lack of oil has it ever been a little low once? Its a low growl that increases with speed. It is very comman in europe due to the speeds we travel.

mine used to vibrate to beat hell from 80-100. (no noise however)

1 free 3rd gen 1LE driveshaft later, and the problem was fixed.
BTW it wasnt a recall, it was in a TSB as a fix for vibrations. They would eventually do it if you bitched long and loud enough. You would be SOL if you tried to get it fixed now, unless you have one king sized aftermarket warranty.

Somtimes I get a vibration around 60mph but bothing else that I notice though. You're right though it is a echoing growlingf noise that increases whenever I hit the gas. I have an aftermarket warranty... but I later found out (hmm go figure when I needed it) I can't use it here in europe.... only in the states. I can never think of if it was low on oil. I just had it serviced right before I came over here... Those races look expensive! Also I think the noise gets quieter when the car warms up some... but I cuold be wrong because by that time also I'm already doing 80 and I can't hear anything over my exhaust...

Does it do it under hard accleration?
Does it do it under light accleration?
Does it do it at a constant Speed?
Does it do it when you decel?
Does it do it from a constant speed when you put it in neutral?

Does it do it when you turn Left?
Does it do it when you turn right?
Can you describe the noise ? Growl, Gravelly, Squeaky, ETC.

Yes under hard accel.
Yes under light accel,
Yes under constant speed (If I have to push on the gas but not if I'm coasting)
Yes on the decel but only for a little bit.
I don't know about when I put it in neutral but I will assume no since it only seems to happen when I'm pressing on the gas
I'll have to check on the turns....infact I'll do it now...
Ok I'm back and I didn't hear it when I turned Left but when I turned right I did but I also had my foot slightly on the gas.
The sound is like a rubbing WHA..WHA...WHA...WHA (that gets louder as my speed increases or as I press on the gas more).

Don't go with this too hard But I believe the differential side case bearings are on there way out. It is not the bearing making the noise . it is actually the ring and pinion making the noise .

you had asked earlier about the bearing cap torque. Did you pull the diff completly out with the shim packs? If so do you think that you got the shim packs mixed for example left side on the right side?

That is what I was thinking.... I did not pull it out completely... all I did was take the one bearing cap off to get to the pin set screw (or pin). Now Roy are you talking about the PINION BEARING (behind the yoke on the front of the diff). That was the one I was thinking it was.

Does anyone know if TONY down in K-Town would work on my rear end? Reason being is because I was reading in a manual I have and it says if I have TCS that I cant take the whole axle/diff apart due to the sensors or somthing like that in there because I would need a CAMS 2 scan tool to do it.... does anyone nkow the answers or if I would actually need the scan tool?

No I am taking about the bearings under the bearing caps.

Now the drive pinion bearing will usually make noise under accleration or deceleration , but no noise while coasting in neutral.

You can take the whole axle diff out no problem with TCS, Sergio and I did it on his no problem when we replaced his conventional carrier with a torsen.

Hmmmm... I just got back from another extended test drive... Ok Roy here are my final findings..... it makes noise in "N" during a right turn but not left.. no noise in "N" while going straight. But in gear it made noise accel, decel, and and making a right hand turn. I need to get the car fixed by Hockenhiem I don't feel to comfortabe driving it out there like that. What do you think?

My best guess would be the drive pinion bearings are failing. But that is a guess Form my end in Wiesbaden. See if you can get a second opinion.

I already did and they suggested the same thing... My only question now is where can I get it fixed... from what I understand is that that bearing is pressed in and I don't have the tools to remove it..... can you think of anything in the area of K-TOWN or here that might do it? I refuse to take my car to the OPEL dealer here (to many problems I brought my car there to get an EGR valve replaced and I came away with 50 x-tra miles and a messed up transmission.
