Just a little question to all of you guru's out there.... I have to replace a rear wheel bearing in my 96' Z... I have the performance axle with the 3.23 gears and posi trac. What I'm wondering is what fluid (besides the GM type that is outrageously expensive) is the best to use.... I have heard that MOBIL 1 75-90W SYNTHETIC is the best... does anybody know though???? Thanks!

As long as it meets The Gm specification it will work. Also don't forget about the 3oz. bottle of friction modifyer.

I dont know what the best is **cough Redline cough**, but for the most part, oil is oil so just grab some gear oil out of AAFES (its in that ugly black bottle).

the additive, shouldn't cost more than $10 or 20dm at the german dealerships, and dont replace the seal everytime either, just seal it with RTV

Do I only need one bottle of additive or 2?? I was olny planning on doing the RTV anyways they want way to much for the seal..... I wish I could get redline... but A. the wait is to long and 2. I haven't been able to find anyone to ship it over here.,.. they say it's not safe to ship on a plane or whatever! What a load of crud. Well if anyone knows how much additive I'll be a happy camper!

Rock on!!! I was looking around today for a the lube and I found a German Synthetic Oil 75-90W for automatic Trans. Do you think that will work if I add the additive with it?

Dexron III ATF is differant than hypoid gear oil.

You will need about 2qts of gear oil and 1 3oz bottle of additive, GM part #1052358

When you decide to change the fluid in your transmission, then Dexron III ATF is a good choice, and you will need about 4qts for that.

I know that I am getting ready to do mine so I will just use the Quaker State Gear oil for GM rears that they sell at the Auto Parts Store. It is in a green bottle. I am also of course going to use the additive.
