I returned from leave last night to find a box on my doorstep. I was pretty upset when I saw it, cuz I had left instructions for them not to send anything until the 20th, but anyway there was the hotcam kit, gaskets, and 3 timing chain covers (I have no idea why I got 3 of them, I will call next week). This morning the heads showed up. So now all that is left is the intake and the vented opti and my car will be up and running.
Talk to you later
Rob

well, other than having a couple grand worth of parts just sitting around on my doorstep for who knows how long, exposed to the weather. I guess it was okay.

One small setback, the cam has a bent dowel pin, and there is rust on one lobe and journal, so back it goes. Do I replace with hotcam, or CC305 or extreme grind? More time to think I guess.
Anyway here is a couple shots of the heads. Looks like a real mild port job, but also looks pretty good.

If I were you, I would get at least the CC306. I am sure you have more than enough head there that will support it and then some. Now that I have done the hotcam, I wish I would have went bigger. Dont get me wrong, the hotcam has served me well but if I was going to do it over again, I would have went with at least the 306, because tax time I want to do heads anyway, maybe even those ones you have. And you dont want to kick yourself later when you come up against a heads/cam LS1!
BTW those do look Purdy!
P.S there is a interesting looking x-treme grind on camaroz28.com in the for sale section, its a little bigger than the 306.

I agree, I'd definately go with the CC306!!! That is an awesome cam!!! Do a search on CZ28.com and you'll see some very fast times produced with that cam!!!

I hear you, and as a one time advocator of the 306 I agree with you, but for the 15 - 20 hp I gain, I lose 10-15% torque below 2500.
My car has been relegated to daily driver status again, for reasons that arent important right now, so I just dont see the need to upgrade my springs or PCM(again) for the added power above 6200rpm that I'm not going to rev to anyway. It will probably be the Hot Cam in the end, because I like the LSA and duration of it over the CC305.
Now lets hope that Pace stands behind they're sales and does right by this.(Seeing as how they are trying to sway people into a GP on CZ28.com right now)

I agree on that, the hotcam is definatley more streetable. I have seen 375rwhp+ with that cam and that is definatly 11sec hp. But with those 4.10's you dont see under 2500 do you? I dont, especially in a race. 6200 rpm is strectching it on a stock bottom LT1, I do it regularly but thats cuz I know that mine will pull up there and I am saying a little prayer to god everytime I do, and you should get substantially more out of your heads.
Just blabbing,
Jeff

The way that I see it, even as a daily driver, who cares if you drop 10-15% torque below 2500 rpms? If you are driving it on the street you are not using it anyhow. If you do get on it, what is our worst enemy? TRACTION...a direct relation to TORQUE (ie. too much torque for the back meats to handle)!!!
When you make your occasional trip to the track...well, we know what a big difference it'll make there...
Just my $.02

Go big or go home....
I think you are doing a good job of finding a very workable middle ground between streetable/non........

I forgot to add that the Hot cam has is a better cam for Nitrous than a 306, and that is what I will be running at the track.
I sent out several emails, and if the answers are incouraging, I may go 306, but it is dependant on the opinions of if the LT4 springs can handle .550 lift or not.
Your right Jeff, it is down right impossible to hold rpms below 2500. The car literally screams up to the rev limiter. By far the best thing I ever did was have the 4.10's installed.

Ooops I did forget about the NOS! That is the equalizer in everything automotive! That will more than make up the difference between the 306 and the hotcam. For some reason I thought you were going to get rid of the NOS.

How are you feeding a stick w 4.10 NOS. I bet you got all kinds of safety gadgets hooked to it?

Standard safety stuff. WOT switch, Hobbs switch, MSD window 3400-5800, SVO 24# inj, MSD DIS6.
I had Ed wright set my rev limiter at 6400, and I set the DIS 6 at 6200, my shifts are (will) be at 6k until I get some dyno time and find out where the curve starts to drop.
The 4.10's are supposed to be lousy for PA cars, something I didnt really think about. They do kick ass off a stop light though.
Doing really lazy shifts and a moderate launch (2200-2500) I dont see why this shouldnt run a bottom 12 with a 75hp hit on DR's.

I had my shift lite set at 5800 last time at the track. With the tall nitto's and the 4.10's the lite would be on for the last 125-175 feet of the 1/4 I just rode it out cuz I didnt want to shift to 5th. I had only 2 runs at the track with the 4.10's so I didnt have much time to try the shift to 5th for the hell of it.
I did have a pal with a 96' cobra, he would be right at the top of 3rd at the end of the 1/4. One time he said hell with it and hit 4th right before the traps and dropped a .15 off his time.
I think with your street races though you wont have to worry about that. Usualy by then, the winner of the race is usually decided.
