Keep dumping money(lots in my case)into your camaro, or if you could afford it sell the ride and get say....a 98/99 vette? I think maybe I have been in Saudi too long, too much time to sit and think! I'm just not in the game anymore, and building the ride up to 600hp+ just doesn't seem practical. What the heck am I going to do with all that? I live in Sumter! Just curious of your guys opinions. I think upgrading to the big brother is more my style. Anyway, Mike...

Obviously its your call. The cost of ownership should also come into play. A 96 anything is going to cost how much to own and operate vs. a newer 30k+ car.

If I put 15k into mine, then it becomes a new car for alot less than any new car I would want. Sure, I cant look down my nose at other people like the vette/viper/saleen crowd. But I would be happy.

I know if I could turn back the clock, I probably wouldnt even own mine, but now its to late to sell. If you want to dump your car, do it now before you put anymore money that you have no hope of recouping into your car.

decisions, decisions.......? :)

of course then again. If I could, there is nothing wrong with a SC 32V 5.4ltr..

That's a tough call. Speed doesn't really enter the equation. You can make both extremely fast. I agree with Rob though. If you are going to do it, do it before you put more $$$ in the SS. The C5 is basically the only car that I would sell my WS6 for. Good Luck

well the C5 hardtop(Z06) comes with 405 Hapees. However there is nothing better than beating one with a SS or Hawk if you know what I mean. Sounds like mid a mid life dilema?

Mike, a 'vette would definitely be sweet, but would
you be able to make payments on it, and mod it? If
so, and if you could do it comfortably, I say go for
it, but if not, definitely keep the SS man! ;)

Not too mention that you'll be spending serious $$$$$$$ on ANY mod you do to the C5 !
Sure it's a hell of a ride and if you can fully afford it just go ahead.
But if you want loads of power and be able to modify it within a budget i'd stick with the SS.

I appreciate the advice. I would hate to sell, especially to a local but...I am single, debt free, still in Saudi(tax free), I get paid to live in my apt., and I am sitting on over half of my $30,000 reenlistment bonus! I will be in Saudi at least once a year, that's well over a thousand a check so that is big money too. Either way, I will keep you guys posted! Take it easy and thanks again, Mike

whatever you do, try to look 2 yrs ahead minimum. Basically I'm saying, are you going to be happy with a vette in the future. And if you do sell your car, I would be curious to how much you get out of it.

Its taken along time, but I finally got my wife to buy off on the idea, and I'm just curious what kinda hit I would take if I sold also. I have patience, but I'm not giving it away either.

It's always a dilemma. I just posted the exact same question on a different forum and got pretty much the same reply. I think it depends what you want. I loved my C4 even though it rattled and squeaked. I love the look of the C5 but only in red or blue. I had a look inside one and frankly, I was disappointed because there was my Z28 with two less seats. It looked cramped. I know it handles better but if handling is your ultimate goal, there are cars that handle better so it comes down to how much you want a C5. I paid a low price for my LS1 so changing to a C5 would involve another £8000 minimum. While the C5 is a better car, I'm not sure it's £8000 better. Having said that, in 3 years, I'll probably buy a C5. Why? Because it costs £1500 to change the cam belt on a Ferrari and nothing on a C5.

Invest that money now and you could make the other 15 in long/short term dividends and the capital gains will build big money over time the prices are dirt cheap now. Pick up a money magizine and check it out. I would reccomend a aggresive growth fund. Cars are bad investments so invest the money and borrow for a car. Banks will approve loans if you have money invested also it makes you a good risk. This is just me giving you my .02 worth I wished I woulda started earlier.

LuS1fer,
Good points. It is just the thought of owning a C5 and the whole image that comes with it being as young as I am. I'll get over it. Like "Hawk" said, I need to invest. That is something I have trouble bringing myself to do. I kind of live for the day, and saving for when I am 50 is not my style. Thanks again guys. Mike

Thanks for the laugh man! I got a kick out of that one. Not laughing at you, just see myself in your position down the road! Later man, Mike

Invest now and 5 years you will be driving a C5. But I would borrow for the C5 and keep investing just a smaller amount. Because you already have a nest egg. Just my opinion.

I can't speak or read German but on http://www.mobile.de, there's a '99 silver C5 with a stunning bodykit and some gorgeous wheels for a dirt cheap price - the equivalent of £11500 over here (35000 DM). I also found a Geiger Z28 which is new for the equivalent of £16500. Now in the UK, they're £22500 without any of the Geiger stuff. Rip-off UK strikes again ... unless I'm missing something here.

Actually, I'm missing the VAT but at £19206, it still saves £3000 on a standard Z28. This Geiger Z28 has 8.5x18 front wheels with 245/40's and 10x18 rear wheels with 275/35's so they must be worth a few thousand on top.

Hit "Pkw suchen" on the left hand menu
Click on the various search criteria and they become self-evident. You want Chevrolet, Corvette, Deutschland and 1998 and "uber 280PS" Don't specify a price category.Hit the grey search button. You should get a list with a thumbnail photo. Click on photo to expand.
Same for camaro except Camaro obviously. Don't put in Z28 as it won't produce any results.

Darookie...

Think I've led you up the garden path. I think the DM35000 is for the bodykit alone. Oops! there is a red one on there for cheap money but it's rear accident damaged with used parts supplied.I'll never understand those ads as if it was worth repairing, they would have done it...

Jack...

Don't know. I can't read German. It just says Europa modell vollausstattung mit werksgarantie. Lederausstattung graphite. Geiger sportfahrwerk (then size of wheels/tyres) and Tageszulassung ohne kilometer. that probably doesn't tell you anything. Don't they do sports suspension? I think Gunnar has a Geiger car, he may know.
