Yo dude,

I know I'm a Ford guy and all, but I do know a thing or two about PC's and the internet.

You gotta upload your pictures to a website. They must be stored on a server. You then need to get the address to that picture and using BB code, post it to your message.
I always have to look and see exactly what symbols need to be used. Something like Image or something like it. you see the BB Code link to the left? click on it and it will show the code for an image and other stuff

Ford Guy leaving now hope this helps

ddarookie, what up? I emailed you a while back and you never responded? Anyway, glad to hear you are getting your car back soon!!! Let me know if it is worth the money. I am seriously thinking about doing basically the same mods. Don't tell me right away, drive it for at least 3-6 months and then tell me what you really think of it. That will give it time for the newness to wear off. Best of luck, Peace Image

A60 I was driving and I took the picture. And it did bounce off of the rev limiter, so the tach is off at that rpm obviously! You just gotta love American Muscle!!!

They don't call me "Krazy" for nothing :) I am just an adrenaline junkie (seriously!) The road was wet that day to, the rooster tail I was putting up was awesome, I just wish I could have caught that on film. After I got off of A60 it started to hail out, I was very happy that I had ended my trip by then!!!!

Krazy, just get Scott to ride with you next time. He videod me on my high speed run, but it was a nice dry day. Bouncing off my limiter we were doing 187. I can't remember what the limiter was set at, but if you want to see the video, I will e-mail it to you.

dont mean to be a d@ck, but I'm really wondering about these top speed runs.

do you know the kind of power you have to run to post a honest to goodness 190mph in the brick known as a 4th gen F bod

you better have 600rwhp to run 200mph, so I will let you all do the backward math

It may be cause the finaly part of the stretch is a down hill run. I have the 200MPH guages with the recalibration and they are accurate at 100MPH (I found out the hard way), I also have the top speed limiter removed. I have video taken bouncing off the 6000 limiter in the top of 5ht reading over 185MPH. Maybe it's something to do with that stretch of road, but even on the flat I never had a problem hitting 170 to 175MPH. Yeah, it's not the most sane thing to do and I dont suggest doing it all the time especially in bad weather and traffic, but wiht the right conditions, you may not need as much HP. How do you work out that you need 600HP to do 200MPH? I am curious.

Dark Angel, I saw the video right after you did it. But you can email it to me again. I want to put it in my video library. My computer crashed since the last time so I lost a lot of things. Sweet run though. When I did it the roads weren't soaking wet, just a wet haze, but at that speed it was sucking all of the water off the road behind me. It must have looked sweet from the side.

As far as the speeds being correct. All you need to do is use a gear calculator. Put in your rear end gear size, correct tire size, and your transmission gear sizes and then the rpm you were at. Now the LT1 has a rev limit of 6,000 and I bounced off of it. So I know I was at 6,000 RPM in 5th gear. I need to go find the gear calculator on the net again, but others have done it and say that it is 160mph. As for the LS1 I don't know what their gears are. But I do know Dark Angels car pulled like a frieght train on the high end compared to mine. Peace

Rob, it's highly possible.. How do you think Neons go 140? It's just a matter of finding the right stretch of road, without a million other cars on the road..

Okay, fine make me dig out the research again.

Dont get me wrong, if you've done it or can do it then it doesnt apply to you, let me go ahead and prove Im a ass :)

I'll be back when I get my facts straight

as a parting shot while I gather ammo, Vortechs project Z ran a topspeed drag limited 177mph, thats a LT1 with 6psi (should be equal to a mild bolt on LS1).

What is the Z06's top speed (LS1 in one of the cleanest Cd. cars out there)

I am not saying your wrong. I was just curious how you work that out.

I would consider my car a mild bolt on LS1. Plus that was probably on a straight. Add a downward slop and you can see it's possible.

With enought clean straight road makes things easier. I would have a problem over here doing anything like that since there is just too much traffic!

Get your ammo together. I would like to see how they work this out.

This probably about as accurate a gear calculator that you can find. Just right click and save it and add your info. it will also work for autos but it is not as accurate because it does not take in to account for TC slippage.

just add your tire size and correct ratios and your dead on .
Warning do not edit cells in grey. also you don't have to be a inflight missle mech to understand it.

HEY!!! I used to be a inflight missle mechanic :)

anyway, I have about 30 pages of formulas and stuff about the relationship between hp/weight, frontal area (.cd) to power required ie the relationship of velocity vs. drag. But instead I will offer this site.

http://home.earthlink.net/~jonaa/topspeed.html

its important that you have your dyno numbers to input, but if you dont then borrow Hawks airdyno (couldnt resist)

notice how as you get into aero drag territory (<70mph) the power required starts to shoot up dramatically.

Roy your calculator is great if we were operating in a vacumn, but there is alot more going on than gear ratio/tire diameter/power.

Anyway, I just stumbled on the above site, and havent done any verifing to see if it is correct, but I'm gonna assume its close.

Rob

I think our cars are pretty aerodynamic Rob...BMWs and Mercedes sure are a lot worse, and they have no problem doing 160... :-dunno: I'm not in to formulas, but if what Roy posted is close, I've done at least 180... :D I was in 6th at 4500 rpms going downhill on A6 from Mannheim.. ;)

I argued this up and down on a import forum when I had my civic. The way I see it is this; Yes you would have to concider drag vs power if you where estimating/calculating the top speed of a car, but if you have hard numbers such as rpm, tire size and gear ratios then you know what speed you were going. It's as simple as this...if I am driving my car at "X" rpm in "X" gear then I can use those numbers to state how fast I was going. Now if I use the gear/speed calculator and it tells me that in 6th gear at 5,500 rpm (I am just making #s up for the sake of discussion) I would be going 246 mph then yes the car "would" be going that fast at that rpm in that gear, but will the car actually do it...NO because of drag vs power. It is just a basic truth. Using all of those formulas is like bench racing...forget them and just go out and get some hard numbers and enjoy yourself, but be safe :) Peace

I would very much like to see this high speed run on video also. I love speed. If you could email it I'd be much obliged.

our cars are pleasing to the eye, but to the oncoming wind, they are a brick. .34 cd!!! makes for a frontal area of 22ft.

For example sake, a winston cup car doesnt look to be to aero, but the countless hours in the wind tunnel have shaped them to look good to the wind.

Either way, the point I'm making is it is not physically possible to run 190+ without making over 400rwhp in a Fbody period. You may be able to spin the rollers on a dyno that fast, but you wont do it pushing the wind. If it was as easy as pluging in hp/gear ratio, then a Lightning pickup should roll 240mph easy, but it doesnt.

Thems the facts fellas, do with them what you will.
Rob
