Reason I said I'll spectate is because the ride is too loud. I already know they can me. But we can run 'em for giggles elsewhere I suppose.

It should be OK to race if you have a muffler.

Official cut-off: 95dB ... we might be able to go just a bit over that if it's a close call, but... Tony will have the meter there to check the cars ...

The absolutely max is 98dB, (overall GE)
above that we are out.
I believe on this one there are some people watching.
Thought California has similar rules.
So put a muffler on and go...

Actually it is 95 DB @ 4000 rpms. Ive been booted twice from the ring and pulled over in my town here because of excessive noise.
John the cure is to pack #3 or 4 grade steel wool up the borla tips. Sure it will blow out after a while but you just repackit again before you are tested. It works for me every time.

Whoa... now there's sound regulations?? I might have an issue with that... Howie as well... both of our rides are quite loud.... I might just have to out my cutout cover back on... but then isn't that the whole point of having it on there is to race with it off?

At my first meeting in Bitburg I've seen the official regulation. (Bundesimmisionsschutzgesetz)
It is max. 98dB @ 3800 rpm per 'Nahfeldmeßmethode',
which is about 1 meter in a certain angle behind the car.
The Motorpark is owned by Mr. Hahn, he lets us use it for free, while the Taxiway has to be rented.
BUT:
Any event he has to get approval for and since there was
noice above the limit at a previous race his first
answer was a 'NO, can't do'.
But he likes motorsports himself, I talked to him that OSL is about Street Legal Cars which passed TÜV or US inspection, explained the program, and that Tony will measure the noise however required.
Thereafter he promised me to use his own good reputation
and try to get the OSL approved, with the result that we
got a positive answer for the first of 4 weekends, the
following three will depend on how good the first one went.
(In the last eMail Mr. Hahn wrote that we can't get over 95 dB, I believe that is to be on the safe side)
So everybody is welcome to participate, but please, if you want to race put some muffler on,
or please don't be mad if you don't get to race this time.

Sorry man.. but that's alot of bunk...... I live here on the Bitburg base and all summer long all I hear are those dern motorcycles racing all over the flightline.... how is it they have no sound regulations but we do? I'm not trying to sound like an a$$hole but I think it is a little unfair.... just my .02

Those bikes have the same regulation as we do, it applies to ALL and everybody all over Germany (most Europe). I am very sure that all the people living up there will hear our cars as well, especially on a nice quiet Sunday afternoon sittin' on their balkony.
Not only the ones racing, also the ones coming and going.
And 98 dB is quiet a lot. Why don't we measure first and then see what happens, maybe there is only a very few which we may have to figure out a temporary fix for...
To give you above information is just for you all to be aware of the situation.
On the other hand, by law your car should not be running at all, nowhere in Germany, if it is louder than that.

Okay lets stop playing games. As I have asked several times....What are all of the rules?!?!? If this is suppose to be an orginized event I would assume that someone knows what rules we are going to use. Is it NHRA? Is it NHRA and then some other rules thrown in, is it what ever you can think of and then change them when everyone shows up? I would truly like to know what rules we are going by and what classes of cars are going to be running in the 1/8th and the autoX. I really do not think this is not to much to ask. Peace

1 rule Run what you brung.. Now that is a good rule.
But bracket and heads up is fun also . As for autocross keepthe gatse fairly wide and the turns not to tight plus keep the top speed around 50mph max. That will provide a fairly fun and fast course .

Funny stuff Roy. Basically what I am trying to say is if I go hand out these lovely flyers that Garry made to a bunch of people and then they show up and can't run because they don't have helmet or some other "mystery" rule that is not being told then I personally know that I would be p*ssed off and want my money back. The plan and simple truth is that you can not just advertise "come one and all with a street legal car and race and have fun" and then when everyone shows up say "oh, sorry you can't race because you don't have this or that" It just isn't good buisness! That's all. I believe that I have what I need to run(I do need to get some shoe polish still) what because I have bracket raced in the states, but a lot of people haven't. Just trying to bring up a point of view. Peace

Any Dragracing events in Germany have to be approved by DMSB = Deutscher Motor Sport Bund, (German Motor Sports Association). They have a five-part Reglement on Dragracing which applies to ALL Dragracing in Germany. I did not read all yet. It applies to all events except for such which are counted for FIA-/FIM-/UEM- Championships and Trophies... then those Reglements apply IF/WHERE they differ from the DSMB-Reglement.
The OSL Germany is under AFAIK OSL and DMSB rule as I understand. So far the Sports regs.
The Bundesimissionsschutzgesetz reglements the exposure to the Environment, I don't know all the details here either, but any big events, demonstrations, open airs what so ever have to be approved by the city/country whoever the area belongs to, there is the law conserning the noise of a racetrack, airport... (also Ramstein AB or other Racetracks
have to deal with that)
I was shown the one section conserning the cars/mufflers on races and made notes, that is why I am sure on that numbers.
I will be in Bitburg this coming Tuesday, I will question the 95/98 dB again (since I was told 98 first and 95 later)and will let you all know the result on Tuesday night.

Krazy the further rules I found myself on the OSL site last year... about Helmet and so on. That should still apply.

The 1/8 will be 'trophied'... going to be a bracket race again open for everybody. Basically everybody can do everything with any street legal car.

Okay, I finally went to the OSL web site and all of my questions have been answered. I found out everything I wanted and signed up for the Bitburg races. Now that I have information for people who ask I will start handing out flyers and gathering up everyone I can. Geez, why didn't anyone tell me they had all of the tech. inspection requirements on the OSL site? Peace
