As some of you know I also bought a Dodge, Aspen RT.
From an American, so I have to go through customs.
To get clearance from customs, I have to show up with the car, but to drive it there, I need license plates to go on the public road. But to get license plates, I need clearance from customs. Get it? (Who was first, Henn or egg...)
So get temporary license plates - is what I thought.
To get the license plates from registration place I need
a cover card from insurance first, but to get the cover card from insurance they request the title book from registration... (Henn or egg?)
Oh, and TÜV: need plates to drive to TÜV... but without TÜV I can not register, so no title book, no insurance, no...
So I thought I start at one corner and just fight through:
The insurance should be most willing to serve the customer.
The first one I been almost forever, Allianz, they say I can have a covercard if I have a title book and pay 109€ for 5-day tmporary insurance to get red tags.
(The money for the tags at the registration is about additional 25€ for 5 days)
So I think that is quiet expensive, try another one which may be cheaper.
Two weeks !! ago I gave them the data I had:
Dodge Aspen RT, year 76, in restauration process, want to drive it over 5 days (Bitburg, but not their business) and register as soon I got TÜV/customs/registration/title book.
They got the VIN, the hp and cui.
They been calling me back about every day having some other strange questions: Today (remember after 2 weeks):
What is the manufacturer of the car.
I say: Dodge.
No, it is not Dodge, this manufacturer does not exist for the year of 76 on the computer listings.
I say: Plymouth? -No-
Chrysler? -No-
I say: Well it is taken over by Mercedes by now...
He writes down:
Manufacturer Mercedes, Type: Dodge Aspen RT
and says: I will call you back tomorrow.
Is somebody wondering why I can't sleep tonight?
My head still hurts from banging it to the wall...
And I still do not have an insurance.
