I'm going TDY to Istres, France for about six months. Have any of you Air Force guys ever been there or heard about it?

You are going to make a killing. I'm sooooo jealous! Enjoy yourself! As far as fun I heard it's the place to be.

My information is about 8 years old, but I will tell you what I do know. Istres is near Marseille and less than an hour from the beach. From what I have been told, they are staying in a fairly decent hotel and the per diem is pretty good, but it is not cheap to eat, etc. If you don't drink too much, you will probably be able to make a little money on your per diem. Overall, it is not a bad location. Everybody who goes there likes it and wants to go back. There is quite a bit to do. When you go to Marseille, watch your wallet. Also, if you decide to take your car, be careful with it. There is a lot of car theft in that area. Cars are also frequently broken into. Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear you being away for a while ... hope you get back safe ...
The way I've seen the French drive, you may want to store your Camaro till you get back ... ;)
