Looking for a used Chevy/GMC etc. VAN, or nice SUV - price range up to 4k, should have a trailer hook. Car with german papers preferred ...

Have you checked C&F? I see a couple in there... They're a little higher than 4K, though. More like 6-7k.. :)

This is mainly for 6-8 trips per year to the track, so I don't really need a real nice looking, high quality vehicle ... looks doesn't matter too much, motor/tranny/brakes would be important, plus being in a state that could pass german TÜV inspection ... ;) Anybody see anything like that, let me know ...

I still own one third (the other two thirds belong to Marc)
of a 1986 VW Multivan, former dirty-rust-brown (beautiful!), now completely decorated with graffitis (even more beautiful!),
2.1l water cooled boxer engine, 96hp (strongest engine available! endless torque!), EURO1 cat (not stock!), even with a trailer hook (special option!)...

OK, there are a few very very little problems:
It already run 320000km, but the engine was swapped at 200000km.
Well, and the tranny is shot, you can´t use 4th and 5th gear (possibly just a problem with the shifter).
But perhaps you´re satisfied with just 3 gears?
BTW: It´s impossible to find a used 5-speed-tranny for this car without spending a fortune...
Oh, and TÜV and AU expired 2 years ago.
(its still registered)

=> That´s convincing, isn´t it? :D
OK: J/K! ;)

Cross your fingers - talked to a guy in Fulda on the phone today, he's selling a 93 Cherokee, 180HP, trailer hook, etc ... description sounds OK, price is right ... going there Monday evening with my friend to take a look and take it for a spin ... guess if the technical stuff checks out I'll have a car to pull the '79 for next year ...

Well, after checking the car out quickly on Friday, and letting my friend check it out technically this afternoon, and the price talked down another 200€, I recon I got me my third US car ... still needs to get new TÜV (ran out two months ago), probably a new serpentine belt, but the rest of the car is in pretty decent condition ... recon I'll get it some time next week ... so getting the 79 to the track next year is no problem anymore ...

well, paid and drove the Indian home today ... de-register it tomorrow for now, until I pick up a set of leaf springs ... still got to get used to the soft suspension ... anyway, amazing how easy it was getting it into the driveway at home, almost had more problems with my old Renault ... just got to see that I can get it back out again ... ;)

(anybody not undertanding this joke - don't go there or read my
old post about insurance)

Slow down way BEFORE autobahn exits. Them things flip easy.
