Taking a stock Z28 or SS and adding an FIPK gives the same net result, right? Having stripped out all the suspension and fitted BMR and Bilstein bars and suspension throughout on a stock Z28, what would stop you sticking an SS badge on it as it would now be more than equal to an SS and the only real difference would be the now defunct snorkel and 17" wheels. Or is the SS badge sacred? If so, why do Chevy stick it on any old performance variant without any hesitation at all.. Interesting to see the response on this.

I don't know how sacred the SS badge is, but I do know that if you order from most places anything to do with SS you have to give your VIN#. I was told that it is so you can't take any vehicle and make it a SS... But who knows!!!

That may apply to the older SS's (chevelle for example) but the SS camaro is pretty much off the shelf parts. You can buy anything you want straight from SLP, or any number of places.

Even though the differances between the SS and normal Z, arent much, and its only a order code (exactly what the Z28 is, just a code) I dont like the "fakers". IMO I dont think people should badge the cars as something they aren't.

I tend to agree with you Rob but it's still kind of weird that people will diss a Z28 even when it's improved beyond the SS specification. Just a case of placing a badge on a pedestal. Guess I'll leave my Camaro Trans Am Cobra Z06 just the way it is.

With the SS hood, I believe you WILL get a bit more airflow into the K&N. The difference might not be that significant, but there will be some. Don't forget the spoiler and the exhaust. I don't think the SS is better, by any means, but I do like the fact that it comes with all the parts I want to upgrade to, like the hood, spoiler and wheels. The suspension and exhaust really aren't worth mentioning, unless you get the SLP dual/dual or the center mount exhaust. The SLP bilstein option is a joke IMO and not really worth the extra $$$. If I could go back, I might have ordered a new SS, but I am glad I went the route I did.

Sorry about that dude, but if its the badges, what ones would you like. OEM, Carbon, Red, Blue etc..... all day long from various places.

The only thing that would be hard(er) to find is the plaques they used to have on the ashtray, and the key fob that said it was #xxxx of xxxx back when SLP still did the work.

and as a side note, I'd like to take a chainsaw to all the GT's that ride around with cobras on the side!! WTF!!!! My stupid neighbor has a V6 with snakes on it for christs sake.

I am thinking of putting WS6 badges on my V6 just to see how many people notice. Hehehe.

Everyone(some) that doesn't have one(SS) says it's not worth it, but wants one???

Say what you want but, the hood, rims, spoiler, suspension, oil cooler, intake, exhaust, floor mats, plaque, and Lord knows what else is well worth the cash.

Unless!!!!!!!, you just wanted a Z to build up to race car status like Silas...

The SS intills fear the eyes of many:)

To be fair, if the SS was made when I bought mine, I probably would have wanted it. Without knowing it, I ordered the Y87 package and got everything it has except the body kit/wheels.

The biggest problem I have with the car, is that it wasnt seperated far enough from the average joe. Bump the power, give it bigger brakes, etc....

GM has a bad habit of not going far enough. Sure it would cost more, but its supposed to be more exclusive. I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing me say things like this, but there is absolutely no mistaking a Cobra for a GT, and I think that is what GM should have done with the SS/WS.6.

Mike, you are right. We are all jealous. Seriously though, if I had the hood I would be as close as one could get without the badging.

I know your bored over there and just want to write, but who cares? I don't think your car looks anything like an SS. On that note, I think the SS is far more obvious over a Z28, than a Cobra is to a GT.

You guys are making it sound like cars can't be cloned. Mustangs sell more body kits than ricers do. My roomates car looks better than a factory SALEEN and is faster, but is it real? No! Hell, I have seen a Fiero with a Lamborghini kit on it....

Anyway, if I had bought a Z I would have made it look like an SS anyway, without any badging....

Nobody is saying cars can't be cloned. I know all I'm saying is that if you're gonna make a car look like another, don't lead people to believe it's the real thing.

Mike, if you didn't know me, and I had taken off the badging, how could you tell it wasn't a SS?

BTW, how many people actually keep the stock exhaust and suspension? On the LS1 cars, the intake is the same on the Z28 as it is on the SS. Some people don't come across great deals on cars, and can't afford to order a new SS. The only reason I bought mine is because it was ready to go and all I had to do was test drive it. Had it not been there, I might not have ever had a fbody. If I could go back, knowing what I know now, I would propably order a new SS. Hindsight, as they say, is 20/20. :o

Go ahead and clone a 99-01 Cobra, start with a differant engine, PBR brakes, differant interior, and independent rear suspension, you can round it out with a completly differant hood/rocker panels/bumper and wing effects ;) .

Sure the SS looks nice, no; really nice. But bottom line is it is identical to a Z28 except for looks. When all you have to do is add a WU6 package to a Z28 you get the same car, with a add on package. With that said, do I think it is wrong to emulate a nice looking car? No, of course not, and to a extent I did/have, but I wouldnt badge it a SS, cuz its not.

Has nothing to do with me dissing the SS cuz I wouldnt do that. I just think GM went cheap, and didnt give the SS its due like the differance between a C5 and a Z06.

my .02

I suppose that means the badge is sacred then. Even if I bought a Z28 and fitted every part from SLP to make it nut and bolt identical to an SS, most still wouldn't consider it an SS but rather a clone just because Chevy didn't stick a 10 dollar badge on it. I wish Chevy could be as fussy about what they stick that badge on and were as concerned about the badge as the buyer rather than just using it to sell a few more cars.

Of course you can buy the parts and make your car look like an SS. No different than any other brand of cars that have upgrade models. All it is is extra parts...

Z28 is to SS, as
Gt is to Saleen, Just be glad the SS didn't cost 40-50g's!!
