Sorry SSZ28, already left for the fun. What unit are you in? I am in 69th ADA, and already gone, but my wife is still there with her Z.

I'm in B Co 7-159 AVN. I work in the motorpool next door to your guys. Looks like I'll be staying back for a while. I get surgery on my shoulder next month. If anyone needs anything, let me know. What I DON"T want is for the spouses left behind going to AAFES to get ripped off at the garage. I have the motorpool for myself. That goes for any car, even if it isn't a F-body. I'll do what I can to help. I feel guilty staying out of the sand, need to try to make it up some how.

Hey maybe you could give my wife a hand with a remove and replace of an 4L60E. I guess she should check this post, huh. But then again if you got a bad shoulder, that ain't a good idea. I'll see you around, and look forward to meeting you when I get back to Gieb.

Where did you get the tranny? Did you beat me to Kitz? If so, what else did you get? What will happen with the old tranny? I should still be able to help, as long as I don't do any overhead lifting. (I'm OK if I'm on my back though, just not supposed to have my arms over my head)

Yep, I guess she did beat you to Kitz. This was all her. She even got the rearend for my car. We haven't really talked about what to do with the other tranny. It keeps pumping fluid out the vent tube. But I think there will be alot of overhead lifting involved. I haven't tried to take a tranny out on my back yet, and don't want to try. We have been using the lift at the craft shop for all the times we have swapped it out. I wonder why she hasn't seen this post yet... PTcruisin, where are you? You better be cleaning my house. Sorry, a little off topic.

I should be cleaning your %^@$#$! house?! WTF!!!
Yes, I'm here, a little late on the post (as usual). Yeah, I really could use the help swapping out the tranny, if you're interested. Of course, if you can't really lift your arms over your head, that would be kind of bad...Hmmm, maybe you could supervise and I could pretend to be useful...(sound familiar, Rob?). The car is parked on Gieb and I think the battery is dead. Also, I wouldn't even want to start it, lest we have to clean up what is left of the transmission fluid in it. It ain't purdy! No, we haven't discussed what we're going to do with the extra tranny...Rob, email me! Anyway, let me know what you want to do! Anyone else feel like helping change out a tranny?

I can still help, I hope! They should have a transmission jack at the shop. If not, I've used a regular jack with a piece of wood and a rachet strap before on my '57. Works OK. I would like to see what I'll be getting myself into first though What are your plans with the rear end? I have some bent axles that need replacing. If you want to rebuild it, I have an Auburn diff here at the house. Oh, by the way, that Z-28 had 2.73 gears in it according to the vin. Do you know who got the engine? They might need the computer for it. It might be in my garage.

Who got the engine? Yeah, me! At least, the guy who was there with me! I had help pulling that tranny, and he took the engine with him. What will you need to consider helping me change the trannies out? Hehe, I'm getting pretty desperate here...we're on the Vehicle Reg bad-list for many, many reasons, and I would love to start getting on their good side! That, and I'm tired of Rob bugging me about "have you taken care of the cars yet?" ( ). I'm really too busy cleaning his house to take care anything else! Just kidding...seriously, though, I do need to get this all taken care of, so let me know!

When did you go and get the drivetrain? I was pissed when the car was gone. I even took the computer hoping that it would give me more time. I was wrong. Is the engine now for sale? How much? How about the rear? Where is the car parked and which one is it? As far as he registration goes, you might be able to get an extension on some non-op tags. I know you have to go through the bsb for permission, but given the scenario where everyone is gone, they (BSB and AST) should have pity and help you out by signing the paperwork. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll see what I can do. Worst case scenario- will you sell the car? I know people who would be interested.

You know, I had thought about selling. As far as I know, we'll still only be able to ship one car home courtesy of Uncle Sam, and Rob's is it. And I would like to buy one a little newer, too. As for the engine, I don't know, but I can contact the guy who took it. I don't remember what day we went out there...sorry we took everything you wanted! I was pretty desperate for that tranny though. The rear end is hopefully going to go in Rob's car, so you'll have to ask him about that. I'm thinking of getting temp tags for the car, but I'll need a definite idea on when the tranny will be getting switched out. If nothing else, I'll have to get the guys at the craft shop to do it! Yikes!

What's up with his rear end? I mean the car's Are you going to put in a new torque converter since the tranny will be out? Before the new tranny goes in, we can do a few modifications to it such as new larger servos and a larger pressure boost valve. This will work better than a shift kit and the cost is about $200. The valve body does not need to be removed to install these parts. Just giving you some options...

Well, my rear is fine. Just the brakes are drums on the back. I have a 6er and it came with drums. I am prolly going to swap the gears, cuz mine has 3.23s in it now.
With the wife's tranny... I would like to get it on the road right now. Worry about upgrades when time permits. Or maybe upgrade the original tranny while the other one is in there, and then do one last swap. We'll see how things go.
Rob

SSZ28, are you still around? If you're seriously interested in helping with the tranny, please let me know. Rob has been told that we have to get the car moved, so I'm going to need help soon. Let me know!

I'm still around. I should still be able to help. My handy # is: 0173-8502257. I don't have much time on the weekends. If all he wants is to upgrade to disks on the back, I should be able to do so without changing rears. This way you keep the lower gears. Unless you want highway gears...

Oh, Rob's car isn't here to receive the new rear end. It's in Mannheim, at Tony's place. No, I only need help with my transmission right now, swapping the old one out with the new one. I'll give you a call tomorrow probably. When do you normally have free time (that you'd be willing to give up to help me)? Also, what's your name (Kevin?)?! One last question...one day last week, were you revving the engine of your truck for some girl in the CMR parking lot? Hehe, I was out there with some friends (I wasn't with the girl or any of her friends) and almost walked over to introduce myself. Talk to you later!

Well, long story about Rob's car, but it started out with a blown head gasket...in 2001. Been at Tony's since not too long afterwards. Ask Rob about it sometime because I'm bound to get some of the details screwed up. Sorry I didn't introduce myself...by the time I started to walk over, you were on your way out of the parking lot. No big deal...I'll flag you down sometime if I do see you driving around! It's nice of you to offer to help...you sure you want to get a pass to do it? Wow, thanks! Seriously, though, I'm kind of stuck as far as getting help goes...all our mechanic friends are gone, and I really appreciate your help. I'll be in Amsterdam the first weekend of April, but that's about as busy as my schedule gets.

No, it's the 3.4L, which is why it's taken so long to get fixed. He wants to upgrade to performance parts along with repairing the damage, and there aren't many performance parts made for the 3.4L. Took forever, but we finally got alllllll the parts he needed, and now we're just waiting on Tony. Oh yeah, and for me to mail him the piston rings sitting on the dining room table....(*lazy $h!t*)
