My car stalled this afternoon about 1700 check all fuses they are good. I pulled a valve cover and had my wife crank it over and the valves did not open and close like there supposed to? I think I broke something but I did not hear metal on metal .Guessing its a timing chain right now but that was a JWIS with Cloyes gears last year.

Sorry about the bad news. Hope it's nothing major. Just out of the blue this happened?

It is the timing chain it looks new except one link. I got all the pieces out I an just worried about the valves some stayed open during this event I am hoping they did not hit a piston.

I admire your optimism there . But when you extend a ventil over a half a inch with shaved heads. The question is how many hit . Ifeel for you man.
Safe bet is too pull your pushrods and roll em across a pane of glass and a compression check prior to running the engine wouldn't be a bad thing either . If the compression checks out okay from cyl to cyl, then you probably got away with a light kiss.
Don't know what I can do to help but let me know If you might need something. I do have a few spare top end parts.

Damn. You might have enough clearance seeing how I remember you changing valve springs. I think you had dropped one in their before and was able to barely get it out when the piston was at TDC?
But to be safe. I agree with Roy.
Good luck.
Jeff

Well it is junk as is now I must figure out wat is salvageable. No bent push rods (installed chrome moly 1000 miles ago) but 8-10 bent valves so far. I am now hoping for no cracked /destroyed pistons. Damage is now into the $$$$'s at least. A cam to stop spinning @ 5000-6000 is bad news. I will be sending the chain/valves back for a autopsy. It will be down for a while without a doubt. I think I'm on my own on this one to far out to be covered.

Man that sucks! I feel for you big time. But don't you still have your old block at Tony's still or did you chuck it? I remember seeing it on several occasions down there. Slap that thing in and roll out! Man........

7 bent valves, broken timing chain. No head damage other than valves pistons not damaged, Valve sprinngs are good. Cause was timing chain no doubt. Yes the old engine is at Tony's but I am sure this one is better.

Well I bet that is a relief . Can the pistons be notched any for deeper valve reliefs. I know this won't keep valves from completely touching the piston . But a soft kiss would be better than a French in this case.

well, sounds halfway bearable .. could have been worse ... have you already ordered replacement parts?
Hope to still see you running in Bitburg in about 7 weeks or so ...
