Took the cobra to the 1/4 yesterday. Results up front, only 2 runs, first one doesnt count, I wasnt ready for the tree :) ) 14.01@101.

Okay, are you done laughing yet?......

Analysis: well with 32psi in the NT555's I hit the strip. I cant seem to learn how to launch this thing, but even with a 2.4 60' she still delivers a 14.0X. The mph figures, because thats all the power she has captain. I wish it had been a dead night, because after the hour I spent in the tech line, then the 9 wide staging area about 10 cars deep, it took awhile to get a run. The LS1 that schooled me ran a 11.43@???, however he had an issue with water blasting out of his car on the big end.

Thats all I wanted to know, was what this thing would run with me fumbling at the controls. The 60' is something that could/should be whittled down to a 2.0 or better, so there is my 13.5 or better (make sure the track you go to is not full of honda's draging water up on to the track..not an excuse, just advice).

With my experiences duly noted, I've went back to my camaro (the car that is/was/and will be my race car). Even with my camaro spewing its guts on the track, it still managed a 8.5 at nearly 90mph in the 1/8 (an easy 13.0). With that said, its no doubt who can outrun who (to be fair, my Cobra only has a PVC'd K&N and pullies).

This experience helped me decide on my path. The LT1 will be out of my Z this week. It will be stuffed full of new rings and maybe forged pistons. I havent decided against a S-trim, but it will have some kinda of forced induction if that is in a bottle or not is to be decided.

I dont really know what point im trying to make with this post other than a 2001 cobra on street tires is good for a 2.4 60' enroute to a 14.ohhh @101mph if I'm driving it.

A couple other cars I talked to ran:
1996 LT1 Z28 - 14.7
2002 vert vette. 14.1 (I swear, I got it on video)
1999 T/A 13.8
2002 lightning 12.7
2003 cobra 13.1

Now before you send me a "I told ya so", my race car was always gonna be my Z. I knew the cobra wasnt gonna set the strip on fire (now if any of you want to race me around a bumpy mountain road, step right up ;) ) It just took a trip to a very popular and very populated drag strip to reinforce this.

Rob , this is not a slur or anything , but nut for nut when my Ls1 was stock I have not had a problem with walking away from Cobras over here whether it be on the Abahn or the road track.

Good report Rob. Not bad I suppose. 2.4 is what gets ya. What the hell do you gotta do to get it lower? I guess you decided on what the next LT1 project will end up like. Let us know how it turns out.

I completely believe you Roy. The only ones that will have a fighting chance are the 99, and 01's. (the ones with the PI heads).

They arent under rated like the LS1, but they do make an honest 320hp at the crank. You used to be able to check the part in your hair, and dig coins out of the ashtray all the while stomping the hell out of the other guy, now you probably should pay attention stock for stock or you could get embaressed.

John, for the record to get them to hook you have to be willing to sacrifice a couple of halfshafts to the gods of the track. If you spin you wheel hop BAD. If you wheelhop, they pop. The really fast guys have already swapped with a GT for its live axle. (not even a thought for me BTW). No doubt I left alot on the table, because I didnt want to offer up my tremec or irs as a donation for a timeslip, but I dont think there was much more than .4/.5 , and maybe 1 or 2 mph left in it.
