I finally made it to the inspections yesterday (4 months too late, but better then never ). I passed emission testing (AU) with distinction, 0.01% CO, 0.3% max is allowed - the new heated 02s (thanks Bruce!), the MSD ignition and the accel coils simply work great.

But i didn´t pass the main inspection (HU).
Not because of my mods, that cool TUV guy even liked them, but because of my rear brakes (fronts are still very good) and the worn out front lower ball joints. The rear calipers don´t build up much pressure anymore and work very unevenly (80:130), so does the emergency brake (30:85). I think both rear calipers are shot (worn guide pins, worn out emergency brake cable springs etc etc...).

Is there a way to upgrade the rear calipers?
(LS1s? Wilwood? Baer? Something < $400....)

I could simply rebuild them, but I think i want better ones.
I have the same rear end as the LT1s (3.42, LSD, discs),
so everything that fits there should fit my car, too.
When my front calipers go bad, I will upgrade them, too.

And what ball joints should i get? (brand? greaseable or service-free?)

You won't get far with 400$ upgrade . For that money its best to buy factory rear repalcement calipers since the park brake is part of the caliper.
As for Ball joints TRW, MOOG are both good .
http://www.pika-autoteile.de/ is probably one of the biggest american parts importer in Germany. They just live around the corner from. Tey seem to have a pretty good inventory.

What did he say to your Borla exhaust?

I know somebody who works for the company where Pika-Autoteile again gets most of their brake and suspension parts, he will order this stuff for me. He liked the Borla sound pretty much and asked why I want a V8 when a V6 sounds already that good
I think he saw that i maintain my car and know at all what i´m talking about.
BTW, he drives an old Porsche 911.

I think Wilwood does make a kit for the Fbody front and rear. As for that kit yeswith the proper adapter mount it will fit. But the wheel spacing will change.
Yes my back brakes are Movits.

Of course, he doesn´t...
But right before he inspected my car he had to check a 1.0l Opel Corsa (3 cylinder!!) - compared to this my car was definitely an improvement in sound!
BTW that Corsa didn´t pass emission testing - 38.000km and the first set of 02 sensors was shot on this car. Sadly, thats GM "quality", too...

Yesterday I ordered new rear stock calipers (rebuilds), upper and lower front ball joints (service-free, TRWs, i think, much better than stock i was told) for 500EUR, shipped.,incl. tax. Sounds good...?

Any recommendations regarding brake fluid?
Whats the best stuff to get?

ATE SUPER BLUE DOT 4 bremsflussigkeit. Relatively inexpensive and made in Germany.
