hm ... recon they weren't waiting at the track - from the second or third picture I'd say they tried to extinguish it with with regular ones first, but probably didn't succeed ... probably took them 5-10 minutes I'd say ... wonder what caused the fire, he noticed he does have a dual nitrous kit or something on the list ...

If that was a backfire in the intake on a very big wet nitrous shot, i think
it could have gone up very quick...

A car will catch fire either very quickly, or it will take a while to get started.
A fire needs a mixture of oxygen, a flammable, and a starter.
Sample: air, fuel, match.
Too rich or too poor on either the oxygen/flammable side, the fire does not burn.
(like you could throw a match into a gasoline tank, when there is no oxygen at all, it won't burn. Or on the other hand: the fire will burn as
long there is fuel, as soon the fuel is burned up, the fire will stop)
also, I can have as much oxygen and as much fuel as I want... without
a spark there is no fire.
Now coming to the nitrous, this is an oxidizer.
... and where an oxidizer is involved it is very hard to kill the fire
(traditionally by taking away the oxygen from the flame with either water or powder)
because the oxidizer is constantly feeding the fire until it runs out of either oxygen or fuel...
On a side note, I am wondering why those people were allowed that near to the vehicle when a compressed gas bottle was in the fire.
When loosend or damaged, the bottle itself can release the pressure very quickly and shoot like a rocket through walls.
By own experience, it is very hard to get close to a burning vehicle, the flame is so unbelivable hot and intense, much more as you can imagine by looking at them pics.
I had to watch two cars in an accident to start on fire and all passengers burned up in the flames and we could no where get near the vehicles.
At that time a fuel leak and a spark at the accident itself inflamed both cars immediately.

What took the fire trucks so long??? The car couldn't have gone up that quick. could it?
