I was posting on the main board showing my pics of the carnage. A member posted that it could've been someone else. Suddenly it dawned on me!

The last 1on1 meeting I went to was the day the car died. Well it's also the day I had the hood opened for all to see AND the day I took the airbox off to paint leaving the engine exposed. I didn't have the hood closed completely but just sitting on the latch. It was open for all to see for a 1/2 hr at least once I took the airbox off. I left the filter on but that can easily be pushed to the side and throw a screw in. Like I said that screw is alien to my car and all bolts are accounted for w/ the engine, air box assembly etc.

I hope it was worth it to whoever did it. NOT you guys but someone on that day did me in. Little do they know they just did me a huge favor....
because I'm coming back w/ a vengence!

SO guys be careful out there and don't do what I did even for a second. Don't walk away from your car w/ the hood opened air box on or not!
I trust no one now because of that.

Peace,

Wow John, that sounds pretty harsh.. I can't believe that someone would do such a thing, but hey, you really can't trust anyone these days..

There is truly no other way to explain it and it makes perfect sense. ARE said any engine w/ that will go down and they don't carry screws...they're a machine shop. I believe them and the guy that's helping me w/ it said the exact same thing. He said it's a 100% someone threw that into the the intank. They said w/ enough vacuum it got pulled into the runner and after that caboom. But they said as soon as it hits a piston the engine goes down immediately after that. And as I recall it just got worse and worse when it initially started and since the car is so loud I couldn't hear no pinging (early warning sign) before she went. Never had a problem w/ the car before so it has to be of someone's doing. When we tore the car down EVERY part was acounted for I wasn't missing a thing.

OMG, That is so F*cked up. I don't know what else to say. I just can't believe someone at a car enthusitest event would do something like that.

yes, it is true. My blood pressure is starting to go up because people have tried to do thing like that to my car and my bike but failed miserably because I went through it when I was a teenager, I was a victim too.

And what really get's my feathers ruffled is that it is done by people that look like normal people but have deep feelings of lack of self identity- low self esteem/ self worth, jealousy, envy, weak personality, etc.

think about this - these stand by----

(brief interruption) I am a little pissed- excuse me, I am sorry...
people with these problems are very good at being POLITICALLY CORRECT. Meaning that someone that looks completely normal and acts and behaves JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE could have a deep inferioirity complex......

this touches my nerve because I have been through this....

I am venting now.... they see someone with a car that is not like EVERYONE ELSE'S ..... that is faster than their (example) dodge caravan, and anything faster than that is" way too fast"......which is POLITICALLY INCORRECT.

They feel threatened by your strong self identity and your powerful car which they will never have.....

and the only way they could lash out at you is to be a coward and doo something like that..... excuse me for a moment....

A couple years back I had one friend that I used to hang out with..... I knew him for at least three years... I would NEVER HAVE suspected this guy of hitting on a girlfriend of mine behind my back.....

she did not immediately want to tell me because she knew we where "good " friends but as soon as I found out he avoided me like the plague, and to this day he has gotten extremely "two faced" by everyone who knows him.

It is history- but I learn from experiences.

I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER judge a book "by it's cover" No matter how nice and friendly and normal they try to be. They can walk up to me and smile in front of my face but when you are not looking they'll throw a screw in your intake.....

......... excuse me for being this way but it is true.... when you go places and you see people keep in mind that they will only let you see their "good" side, this goes for both sexes.

Keep in mind many people have hidden psychological issues that you may only notice behind closed doors.. I make it a habit of seeing right "through people" to see what they don't want to show you... the reality that behind that face they are nothing. (this goes for both sexes)

I'm ranting...I am sorry..

hind sight is 20/20...... I could go on and start getting in a very negative mood but I am going to zip it and cut myself off because I am sure I got the point across.......

BOTTOM LINE....... THERE ARE MANY JEALOUS, SORRY PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT WOULD LOVE TO GET BACK AT YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE SOMETHING THEY DON'T.

and the worst ones are the ones that will smile in front of your face and go behind your back and run.

It kind of makes sense John.

At first i thought you bought a shortblock, but if you got the longblock, I know you guys would have hand spun it at the very least just to make sure that the clearances werent to tight. The pictures show that the screw took atleast 6 or 7 good hits before it burrowed into the combustion chamber.

Just makes me sick, but there are haters everywhere. I caught some piece of sh*t trying to mess with my Cobra....that didnt go over so well *grin*

I've been on and off lately and must have missed it. You gonna mess with the Z some more????? or is it a write off?

ARE does use screws though, its a fab shop as well, so that is just shifting blame.

Sorry about the bad luck man
G'luck with whatever
Rob

Thanks for all the support guys.

WELL to answer you questions on what I'm gonna do. I've already order new rod and main bearings. This time I went w/ Fed Mogul instead of Clevite's. Got the coated this time too. The old bearings are so worn we couldn't tell if they were coated and judging by the blueprint and part number they weren't. Plus no one had the Clevite's in stock. Also ordered one connecting rod since the rod that smacked the screw/head cracked (hairline). The rod is used though but has only 6K on it. Ironic isn't it? Engine died w/ 6K. He guarenteed it bought from More Performance along w/ the bearings. No one has the rods in stock either they're currently being made w/ a 4 wk wait. No thanks. Also Monday I'll buy 1 New piston. Looking at the skirts they are worn like no other but the machine shop said they can fix that w/ no problem. Roll of dice I know but I'm not shelling out 800 bones for a new set that aren't in stk I might add. I'm trying to keep this at a minimum cost. The head will be welded (keeping my fingers crossed on that). Total seal gapless rings are going in this time vs Speed Pro's. I'll get 3-4 yrs max out of the engine according to the shop rebuilding it, more than enough time for me. This time also around I'll have it dyno flogged and programed on a stand to eleviate all issues concerning richness and total timing etc. I'll also have the crank polished.

I'm really at a loss for words for someone to do that. I don't have a single enemy that I know of and never exchanged words w/ anyone either. So as to why Sven is right on all accts I suppose. Maybe they wanna see how deep my pockets are....I don't know. I almost just went all out and was gonna buy a set of AFR LT4 210cc's and intank fully ported but decided against it at the last moment. Need to make sure she runs w/ no hiccups before dumping $$ into it. She'll really be a wkend car after this and the hood will NEVER be popped open again around people.

Thanks guys. Sorry for the long version. :D

You're not the only one at a loss for words, John. I really can't believe someone would do something so fukked up. For someone to do such a thing is just so incomprehensible. It was probably just some dumb@$$ jealous fukk who had nothing better to do with his/her time. I hope you get it all taken care of, and I hope you decide to keep the Z. Later man! ;)

Actually, even other car guys can get jealous and do terrible things. I remember one guy that I used to race against in Pirmasens. He had a nice Nova (72?), I went to compliment the car and thought that it was a great car. I told him that I had a 73 Nova SS that I built up at Ft. Carson. Then he went on to say that I better let him win when we get to the line. I was like :?: At first I thought he was joking then he went on to say that if I beat him, he was to call my bank and have them repo the car. So what was I to do? I went on to smoke his sorry ass. He got all pissy and was bitching about how I had to buy a fast car and couldn't build one. The rest of the time I was there, I kept an eye on him and always parked at the oposite end of the pits. Fortunately, he was the only A-hole there. Everyone else there was great. I had to stop being naive (sp?) and realize that there are people out there that will get jealous and do bad sh!t to you. Unfortunatly you really found out the hard way.

Oh no!
I am so sorry to read about that!
I do not know what else to say,
and it is a very sick way to try to win.

Maybe it was somebody you blew the doors off?
Maybe we can take a look at the statistics.
Even this does not help now, it wourd give
an idea on whom to keep an eye on.
