Thanks!. I'll keep that in mind. Engine is torn down now but won't know til later this wk if the crank is still good. Hope so because I'll just get new bearings polish the crank and re-ring it for good measure and I'll be back on the road again. Hopefully before the 30th of July or possibly sooner.

It depends. IF it has more power then the original I'll keep it. If it feels about the same as the original 396 then I'll sell it but later down the road like next summer.

What's the status on yours? You still in France?

No, I'm back.. Mine is under construction, so-to-speak.. I have to get new head gaskets again, so I have to wait for them now.. These ARP head studs are turning out to be way more of a nightmare than I possibly could have imagined.

The ARP are good to go, but it is a pain with welded headers, as you forewarned. I wish I would have known that before I ordered them. :D

Well it's a total loss. I tore off one head but not the other. And to everyone suprise when it was torn off down at the shop what we saw next.
I'm calling ARE today despite no warranty for the work. This is total BS and unexceptable. If I have to go to court so be it. 12g's just so I can find this in there. To make matters worse what you see didn't even come from my car it's a total alien piece. So when they assembled it this (P*^%^%!# was laying on top of my piston! Amazing it lasted as long as it did.

So I'll be going back to a 350 unless these A holes compensate me and then and only then I want a cashiers check screw their shoddy workmanship!

I'll have more pics later tonight. Needless to say all the pistons are paper weights...600 bucks, 1 rod is cracked 100 bucks, it'll need new rings 100 bucks, bearings 100 bucks or so, not to mention machine work and reassembly. Looking at 5g's easy. Machine work here is expensive and frankly I don't trust 'em.
Can you believe this sh..?

For 12gs you really can expect them at least to do "clean" work...

Yeah tell me about it. Got done talking w/ them and they are blaming me for the engine failure. Customer is always at fault. Was gonna send the parts back and let them see 1st hand but they are not worth my time. I'll pay them back through the forums. :D I'll be back but as what I don't know................

Since when do you use lag bolts in a cylinder? Is that their way of adding weight to balance the rotating assembly? Is there any way that you can prove that the engine was "sealed" before you tore it down? I really hope that you get reimbursed. Who built the engine?
Good luck...
