Just got back. Basically I told there was a mistake. Dieter was upset so I know my other source dimed me out before I went to approach them man to man.
Once I got past the attitude I told them there is a mistake here's the disc. He looked at it and you should've seen his face. I built 10 of these no problems and you are the 1st. Come to find out the apprentice was doing the work and he was overseeing and it slipped past them. He said he did piston to vavle clearancing w/ the engine out and there was no contact or difficult turning aside from the new rings. Possible? I don't know.
Warranty their work against all defects and stand by their word. Anyways they said they'll fix everything free of charge I owe nothing and I get my money back upon completion and my satisfaction. New valves, pistons and anything else I need free and of my choicfe in product. In fact they said they won't touch unless I'm there upon rebuilding to ensure my satisfaction. Sat's are reserved for my car and my car only once the 4 pistons are built. He was a little pissed that I tore it down myself but I guess I would be too seeing he's the pro and I'm the novice and found their mistake.
I'm out to order my parts now. Later,
Guess that not all bad after all. I still just may build it myself

Dude, that is freakin' awesome man!!! That really makes me happy. I didn't really feel like pulling my chit out of there, so I guess now I won't. After doing yours, I'm sure they'll be a little more careful.

Yeah tell me about it. I just new they were gonna be stink about it. Did you talk to Dieter this morning at all perhaps about your car? Just wondering. They haven't touched it yet still waiting on parts.
It was diplomatic but got dicey for a sec just because I think they were insulted that I figured out the problem. But they were cool about it. So that's even better. Sucks though that I got to wait another 4-5 wks hopefully it doesn't snow by then and I can pass inspection.

Good luck. Do they warranty against incompetence? What was the explanation for the hand tight bolts, pistons mis-oriented etc... The stuff has arrows on it and could probably be read braile style for the eyesight challenged.
They gonna completly tear it down and balance everything, and I'm sure that checking the crank/rods and replacing all bearings is in the cards also. Me personally I would hit there ass up, besides the block they would eat all new parts.
Do it just like GM would asses a voided warranty. Could the malfunction have been the caused for this or that to fail, or soon fail.

Yeah Squirellina. I heard too after the fact. Rob ya better believe it's all being replaced and balanced. Their name is on the line not to mention JAG if they even breathe the wrong way. I'm gonna stop being so pessimistic because everything I've forecasted since day one w/ this engine has come to fruition. SINCE DAY 1. So now I'm gonna think positive thoughts.

The mad scientist I go to is great. He powder coated my wheels and called me after sand blasting so I could varify it was done and also with the clear coat. I'll turn the car over, he'll call once its tore down so I can see everything is done then wants me to stand around and watch him put it back together. If I'm not around he'll notify me on anything I didn't mention (other broken things) and fess up to the things he broke. He's pretty good at english but has trouble reading it so I might have to read for him (story time with the meachanic). But he told me never to take it to Opel, no matter what they say!!!

somethings wrong with the pic.
you should never go to a place like this.
heared about stealing, heared about shifting.
The story with the apprenticeship is a big lie, only a certified
mechanic with a 'meisterbrief' can train others, and such a
person would never leave this kind of responsibilities to
a trainee...
if he really has such a title it is propably stolen as well...
the appearance of the hole place matches a very low standard.

You are right it's not the cleanest establishment. Not by a long shot. But the reality is shop's aren't a dime a dozen here let alone w/ good reps. Lesser of 2 evils I suppose. Since I had 4 pistons ruined I ordered 4 new ones and he insteads buys 8 new ones! I was trying to save him money I only logged 30 miles on em what's the point? I'm still gonna get my 4 just in case his don't fit for some odd reason even though he's got the build sheet on them. I'll just build me another one down the road since I'll have the pistons.
Not to worry one stolen parts. Got a catalog receipt as thick as the bible of every part on my car which I know by heart as well. HE knows he can't pull one past me because I showed him the book. I'm not worried in the least.
