just on the news ... a 17-year-old stole a car in N.C., police caught up with him, but when they had him cornered, he just panicked and tried to push through the (at least) 3 police cars ... ran over one police officer trying to arrest him ... luckily for him, the stolen car was a SUV (or Pickup - just saw the front of the car, something big from Chevy anyway), so he only suffered minor injuries ...
Kid's up for court now for car theft and attempted murder ...
When will they learn???

I saw that on the news as well. Looked like a minivan. He was definately an idiot. There is one problem I saw in the video though, the boy ran over the cop after the shot was fired at him. I wonder how the defense lawyers will play that one. The little bastard should have stopped in the beginning, but still it will be interesting to see how it plays out...

Think your right about the mini-van thing, it almost looked like a chevy astro van. Either way that kid is toast, what a moron.

Also, as to self defense, I think it will be hard to argue for the child's attorney that the child was running over the officer to defend himself ... after all, who wouldn't fire if you had a car charging at you ...

A few years ago, an MP shot and killed a guy who tried to run him over. The guy stole cartons of cigarettes, of all things. Some people just don't care about others, or themselves for that matter.

It's a little more severe when the person aims a moving vehicle at you. That is called self-defense. I did not witness it, and I'm fairly certain you didn't either, Roy, so we're both basically just going off hear-say. If the driver of the vehicle was anywhere near close to aiming it at the MP, or anyone else for that matter, he was perfectly justified in shooting!

Were there other people around? Did you actually see him shoot? That is pretty freaky. What if that guy would have been driving towards you? Would you have wanted him to shoot?

That is so messed up! He got away with it? In that video that has been playing on the news, it appeared the officer fired awarning shot for the idiot to stop. But I bet they claim he was in fear of his life and freaked out, the officer could have moved before getting mowed. I would still beat the kid, but the defense will have a field day.

It's already a closed case. An Army Colonel testified on the MP's behalf. Being a cop is no easy job. When you're in that particular situation, you don't have a lot of time to act, so you try to use your best instincts.
