Just read a thread over at an MR2 board ... guy was asking about his clutch, he was having trouble getting the gears in, and it had a bad smell ... after a couple people asked about details, he said he mainly had the problem when starting at higher RPMs ("hochtouriges Anfahren") - OF 3500 ... d@mn that's no starting, that's launching for the Quartermile ... (btw, at the MR2's weight of around 2500 pounds, you only need an RPM of 1200 or less to go ...). Heck, I launched with less RPM at the tree in my 'maro ...

I'd laugh, but I'm replacing my clutch again..  Oh well, at least I haven't gone through as many as Roy-YET!!!

I don't think anybody can (or should) drive an MR2 who has just gotten his licence ... rear wheel drive, bad in the corners (I don't know when that car starts sliding yet, need to find out this year on AutoX - I'm afraid the limits might come hard and bad once you reach them ...)

Definitely learn the limits safely, so you can prevent bad things from happening.

My first car was a rusty, 15year old (but already fuel injected) Ford Scorpio 2.0 with 120hp - and rear wheel driven (btw what is the english equivalent to "Heckschleuder"?  ).
That car wasn´t a bad start, if you know how to drive such a POS you can drive nearly anything, you just have to start slow.
I think people who just know how to drive FWD cars with all kinds of little electronic helpers are much more dangerous (not only if they ever decide to drive a real car)...
A mid-engine car is of course something different, i think their handling can really be strange (cause of the weight balance?) and is nothing for beginners, like you already said.

My friend (who did the metal works on the Tree) has a US MR2, and while he's a very good driver, he even slid off the road with his some time last winter ... didn't damage anything apart from a wheel that blew ... that's why I'm pretty careful, though trying to find the limits carefully ... I'm kind of scared though, as I've been unable to find any limits ... yet ... I know they are way beyond what I'm used to from the Beemer and especially the 'maro with the old suspension ...

It's somewhere around 45:55 ... combine that with the lowered and stiffened suspension (Koni red) and a better weight/hp ratio than a 3.8 V6 F-Body ...
when is the next AutoX coming up? Can't wait!!!!

I remember me hitting a Beamer's rear wheel on the left side curb once, but in the same year I also flipped a frontwheel on the roof, and my ralleycar got hit by a truck...
so you can be stupid (of have bad luck) with any car.
