Options: _If you can't have any vehicle downtime we can charge you $229.99 for a set of backing plates and send them to Strange to be build into your rear. ...If you bought one or are thinking about it, is this a decent deal??? I still think I want a 9" but a 12 is a big step up I guess....

That's not any cheaper than the quotes I've gotten. I don't think a 12 bolt is a step up at all. It might not be Ford, and might be more in use, but the 9" is much stronger, and will hold more power for the duration.

I wouldn't recommend it Rob, unless you don't want to have the Ford name on your Z..... I'm ordering the 9" street package from Billingsley Racing. It comes with a detroit locker, 35 spline axles, the backing plates mounted and fully assembled. All this for $2648 + shipping of course. The detroit locker itself is $450, so this is really not a bad deal at all, and it would take about 1000HP to even begin to make this rear really work!

Good luck!

Have fun w/ it Jack. 12 or not unless you plan on exceeding 500rwhp mark and we know that takes money the 12 bolt is the way to go. But that's just me. I just don't care for the weight but it's nice to be able to change gears in a instant however. Good as deal you found there w/ the 9".

I'll wait til I return back to the states before getting my rear.

But John, why pay more for something that will hold less power? I've heard of far more people having problems with 12 bolts than 9'ers. I really expect to exceed 500HP, so I think the added insurance is well worth it!

Well I know of several people that run 9's in their 12 bolts for years. And they all put down 800hp + not at the fly either. So maybe it's just a myth but I don't know of anyone breaking their 12 bolt personally and I know a slew of guys using them. Not talkin internet friends either.

I understand your point Jack and logically makes sense. My self personally won't exceed 500rwhp that's my limit. I can't use it the way I want to in the states like I can hear so it's pointless to me. You can only use so much Hapees.

I'm not saying that I've heard of tons of people with problems, but 3 or 4 are more than none!

Regardless, I just want the added insurance, and I will be spending a lot of time at the tracks in the 'States, so if I want to compete, 500 just won't be enough. It might take a while for me to get there, but it will eventually happen. A nice TT setup will be on the menu after the engine is either replaced or heavily fortified! ;) I wish I could have done the engine this time, but other plans did not allow it! :(

I was only wondering about the cost of the GP

Jack the 12's that blew that I heard about were traced back to poor choice of the internals they choose to use (read cheap). If a 12bolt is good enough for George Baxter I'm sure it will take that little bit of power I'll throw at it. A 12bolt, a 9", a Fab 9, a 8.8 it would all be good with me, I just want bang for the buck (well, maybe not "bang" )

And since I cant be accused of hi-jacking my own thread I'll just throw out the little tidbit that a 4th gen will not be competitive at any level with any amount of hp until you get into 6 digit build ups. Going to the track on friday test and tune is another thing, and you can have alot of fun with it.

Well, if I learn how to build engines, I won't have to pay anyone else! ;)

Oh and I guess your GP deal doesn't sound bad, but not great either!
