Does anybody have a spare alternator flying around anywhere? Mine on the 98 went south last night ... :( Don't know yet how I'm getting home from Bitburg tomorrow, guess it's ADAC time ... :)
Give me a call at 0171 6952153 if you have anything ...

Well, contrary to what the guy on the ADAC phone told me, they won't let me upgrade to Plus membership and tow the car home ... now they tell me ... :(

Wouldn´t that be very strange? ... nobody would need to pay for the PLUS membership till he needs it..?
ADAC needs the money of all that people that pay for nothing till they perhaps finally need something sometime in the future ;)

Well, been a member for 18 years now ... only used them once in all those years ... I'm not complaining for them not handling signup for plus like the way I tried, do understand it ... what kind'a p@sses me off is that the guy on the phone said it was fine, instead of clearly stating it didn't work like that ...

Well, lucked out (from a technical point of view) - the Opel place is probably one of the bigger ones, with lots of business from the americans stationed in Bitburg and Spang etc ... lots of Chevy stuff standing around there (including 6 (!) comemorative 'vettes @ 60k€ a piece) ... the mechanic who checked the car out found an alternator on stock (he complained their stock was very depleted - reduced it to save money), probably for an LS1 or so ... the housing had different mounting holes, but otherwise the same alternator ... pulled the controller part of it and replaced the one on mine with it ... had the car running pretty quickly again ... probably a 20 cent part burned through, I'll have a look at it ... maybe I can fix that and then get part of the cost back or just save it in case it should break again ...

Edit ... checked the parts manual, and it looks like it could be an LT1 alternator ...
