 Post subject: Need some advise from the fellow F-Body crowd

The first week of June I sold my Black 95 covertible Z28 to a soldier in Vilseck. It had 100K on it. I just found out from Bruce that the new owner just spun a main bearing in the engine. WTF?!! I know this may sound stupid for even asking but I need some approaches to this situation. What would some of you do? I feel like a sh#t head because the car didn't even last three months. Now I don't know how he drove it but I did see the car a few weeks ago and it was trashed and running on 7 cylinders. He had burnt the plug wire I specifically pointed out to him when I sold it to him. I told him to check it from time to time to make sure it is not touching the headers. I think he ran this thing so long on 7 cylinders that it go fuel in the oil thus causing the main to spin. I could also be off in left field on this one too. I owned that car since 97 and it never left me stranded. I have only raced it twice and on motor only. I never used the nitrous system thanks to the bad solenoids. I have already paid half for the cost of a brake line that go burned by the headers. Just need some advise here.

If he seems like a cool guy, and I know how you are about helping people, give him a hand in fixing it. Don't pay for anything. Its buyer beware. He shoudl have paid attention to that wire. The most I would do is lend my wrench time. No money! Just me

High mileage car and you probably ran it hard ,but took care of it .
He probably ran it harder and and and forgot to check the oil. As long as there was no deception involve.There is no obligation, or grounds for anything . It all up to you if you want to help him. Personally I stay away , sometimes things like this can backfire and your the blame for everything that goes wrong.

No deception involved. Like I said, it burned a brake line after I sold it to him and I paid over half to get it fixed. I only sold the car because I bought a new LS1. Heck, I even thought about keeping it for a while. That car ran pretty strong.

If he would have heeded your warnings, and if he would have taken care of it, there would most likely be NO issue. I agree with Jason- help him fix it, but don't pay for ANYTHING.

It's not your fault, so you schouldn't even help somebody that was treating your (ex)baby like that. You said it's smth wrong with it and it needs to be done soon, and he didn't do it. I took a look at one LS1 this weekend that I really wanted to buy and thought it was in good condition. That car was misstreated, dirty, with no oil in it, scratches, dents, broken seats etc etc that I really got scared.

stuff happens. It could have spun the day after he bought it, and the same thing should apply.

Its not like you sold him a car with 80W in it because the bearings were going out.

If you want to help, go for it. I'm with Roy on this one, and wouldnt. Dont feel guilty about it, he started it and drove it that morning, not you.

Now if he comes to you and says, "I really could use a hand, and you have the most experiance on this paticular car. If you can come give me a hand I'll try to compesate you...." that would be differant.

I'm w/ Roy on this too. I see problems. He's on his own. What he did w/ the car after he bought is his business and his alone. You gave hime fair warning and pointed it out during the purchase. You are in the clear.

I would take the engine out myself and fix it for him but he live over 1 1/2 hours away. That would be a 3 hour round trip. I do feel obligated in a way even though I sold him the car with a clear conscience. No 80W in the crankcase. I ran Castrol 10W-40 in the summer and 10W-30 in the winter.

Don, he obviously didn't care about it, so you shouldn't feel guilty at all. If he did, he wouldn't have driven the car on 7 cylinders.

I, personally, would still help him with it, even though it was his own fault. He's probably just a kid with little or no experience with cars, and I seriously doubt that he went out with the sole intention of screwing up the car.

He NXZ28 what could you do about it??, you can not look in an engine, and you never know how the guy drives whith the car.

I had the same when i sold my Corvette, im always took good care of the car, in the morning just let it easy get on temp, changing oil time to time etc etc, motor and tranny running real great, i sold the car to a guy and just 1 week later he blows a headgasket. This guy came back to me for his money, but i saw him several time and drive the car like he stoled it , so why should i give him his money back??

This story has nothing to do whith yours, But hé this things happends when you buy a used car.
