F-Body Europe

Hey guys! I know it's been a while since I've been on here, but I've been busy graduating from school, doing some traveling, and trying to find a job...lol

Since I never quite made it to Germany, I've been busting my arse to find a teaching position overseas, and it seems that one found me. I've been offered a collegiate professors position at the Foreign Language College in Harbin, China.The pay sucks as far as US dollars are concerned, but I thnk it'd be a cool experience and something killer to put on my resume at age 27.

What do you all think? Any input as far as China is concerend? Thanks!!

I think that would be cool. I've never been there, but I would like to one day. I say go for it, but don't stay TOO long!

If you want to earn low pay in a communist country with virtually no freedoms, go for it. I wouldn't be interested though.

It´s for sure a interesting experience.

On the other hand i also don´t like China for violating all human rights in any possible way...
(and most countries nevertheless do business with them - they buy our Volkswagens, $$$ is way more important than that ).

I'd say, go for one year. That should be long enough to see everything worth to see. Like the chinese wall etc., I'd like to see that but from the tourist side.
With one year you have your killer experience on your resumee.
Don't fall in love with a chinese girl if you don't plan on getting stuck

...and don't forget, they ate human body parts up to 20 years ago, and they still eat their dogs.

I did a world trainer years ago and China was one of our stops...a visit for a few weeks is enough for anyone,,, but I would NEVER want to live there...The shopping is great though...
I suggest you do alot of research before you sign on!!!

Yeah, I'd MUCH rather head towards you all in Europe. I'm MUCH more familiar with things over there, so if any of you have any leads on teaching jobs, let me know!!

Hey, I have spent 6 months in Changchun. I have also been to Harbin, but I do not know about the life there. In Changchun there are lots of Americans, mainly working as teachers. There is big nightlife, discos, bars and some Columbian bands.
Harbin has almost no foreign investments or joint ventures, so I guess the only foreigners are Russians. The city was founded by Russians. Winter is harsh, but the city is nice.
You will find McDonalds and stuff like that, but people on the streets and in the shops do not speak English. You have to learn some basic chinese. Which is pretty simple as long as you do not try to learn reading those letters.
Finding a girlfriend (to our definition) is difficult. In China there is still the rule NO SEX UNTIL MARRIAGE!
If nobody tells you, you will not believe that this is Communism. In fact its the purest capitalism I have ever seen!
As long as you do not protest against occupation of Tibet you do not have to worry about police or secret service.

Do not look for the money, just do it! Its a lifetime experience.
BTW: Most Chinese do not eat dogs. The manners in North China are much more "civilised" than in South China. The girls are cute.
In Changchun I have seen a 3rd Gen Camaro!
I would go there again anytime.
