Hi all, new member here. Actually have been on f-body.org for a while because in the US I drive a 95 Z28. Well I will be living in Italy for a year and a half working for Fiat(shhhhh)(and my baby is staying home) and am having a hard time figuring out how to register a car in Europe... I was thinking about buying a car in Germany because it seems cheaper compared to Italy, but from there it gets complicated... For 3 months I am considered a british worker on Transfer, so I could register the car in england. Then after that I will be considered an Italian resident. Anyway I am sure the non EU natives on this forum have had to figure out how to do all of this, so any help would be appreciated.

Right now Im leaning towards getting a VW Corrado or something similar because good Zs are hard to find around here and whatever I buy will most likeley get destroyed in this country... But my baby will always be waiting for me when I go home! Anyway thanks a lot for your help, and its good to see so many f-body's have been transplanted :)

Buying shouldn't be the problem - also, with EU, there shouldn't be any problem taking the car from one country to the other (are you US or UK citizen? Might be a problem for US, not sure ... guess you will have to check with customs in advance ...)

Most US guys on here are in active service, registering their cars for US plates only I guess... not sure about guys like Glen or Tony ...

Yeah I guess those service guys are lucky. I am both a US and UK citizen so that isnt a problem, I guess it might not be too hard for me to buy the car in Germany and bring it over to Italy, except that insurance here is high(so I would prefer to register in the UK) and they have a lengthy and complicated registration process. Plus Im not sure how I could legally buy the car in Germany and get it down to Italy without having registered it(yet). Also, I think im okay driving with my US license but Im not sure I would be able to register and insure a car with it. I definately need to talk to someone who isnt in the service that has gone through a process like this because its hurting my head!

Thanks for the reply, Garry, I look forward to being on the board

Im glad you made it here, I knew when I refered you to here that it was mostly service members, but there are a couple of regulars that probably can help you.

Take care, and good luck
Rob
