Just posting this, I really dont care who wins. I think this is a cool idea, and I applaud Freddy for adding this.
...The Clash of the Titans is proud to introduce what we beleive will be the hottest, newest and most exciting racing to hit the racing scene this year. As part of The Clash of the Titans / Outlaw Streetcar World Championship Finals in Baytown,tx @ Houston Raceway Park Oct. 30th,2004 we will have The Horsepower Engineering LT1/LS1 VS' 4.6/5.4 Challenge .
The Horsepower Engineering LT1/LS1 VS' 4.6/5.4 Challenge will be ran in conjuction with all pro classes in order to provide the largest audience for this type of event in history. The rules have been kept to a minimum to ensure a large number of entries and to make this a true late model class. This will be 3 different classes held on indexes. (9.99 and faster, 10.00 and 11.00) So lets see now who is the badest in the land of the late model Fords or Chevys!
Make plans today to attend The Clash of the Titans / Outlaw Streetcar World Championship Finals in Baytown,Tx. @ Houston raceway Park on Oct 30th, 2004 , either as a Drag Racing Fan or as a fan.

That sounds like alot of fun. I wish I could be there to watch.
I hope you do well if you race. If not, have fun and post results afterwards, as I'm sure you will.
That HE LS1 is going to kick some serious @$$. He's been getting ready for this for a while. He posts on LS1Tech all the time.

This might finally settle the mustang vs. fbod question. But who knows. There are a couple guys out there doing some amazing things with the ford mod motors. I think the Chevy's will have their work cut out for them.

I'm gonna play both sides of the fence here, but heres my take:
I think this is the proverbial "lambs to the slaughter" event.
Look at the rules. Any power adder? Why would they do that? Oh, I get it, that way there are no sticky rules holding up the SC'd Cobras. 3000lbs weight limit? How many F bodies or Stangs are running around at that weight? Oh, you mean the FFW and NMRA guys that have to weigh that will be allowed to run. It was announced 4 weeks from the event. Why so soon? Oh, would that be because most of the guys that ran Clash last month and FFW 2 weeks ago are still in town and have some extra race gas to burn?
Dude if you roll up there in a F body one of two things are gonna happen.
1. You will be the only person there because your car is the only 1 that shows up, or 2. You will get embarrased the likes of which may have never been recorded in drag racing history.
Time will tell, and I hope this takes off, but like you said nmonty the bowties have a tough 'ol road to hoe.

Look here GLOBAL MODERATOR....
Both sides of the fence are that nobody shows up because of lack of interest = F bodies/Mustangs ... Lose/Lose
Alot of people show up, and the Mod motors walk up down, sideways, and stomp mudholes in everything in attendance = F bodies/Mustangs ... Lose/Win
There is no good scenario for GM. Facts are, the Mustangs ACTUALLY race, they have been developed and dialed in, and are in abundant supply in Tx. The few F bodies that have the speed are so spread out they would never amount to much of a showing given the small lead time and the probable small purse (I'm guessing 4-500 bux).

Don't get upset, you weren't very specific. I don't care either way, but I guess I just read into what you were saying.
I was just referring to this quote:
Quote: Dude if you roll up there in a F body one of two things are gonna happen.

You know what- you're probably right, but do you ever actually say anything good about the fbodies anymore? It sure as hell doesn't seem so. It's always Mustang this, or Mustang that. I know Mustangs are more popular- that's why they always outsell fbodies probably 3 to 1, but now there's not even an fbody, so the Mustang is dominating in more ways than one. If you were able to get the top 10 guys from across the country together, from both sides of the fence (my interpretation), you might actually have a good event.

your right in one way, but not in another. Yeah I have been bad mouthing them either directly or indirectly for awhile, but its all coming from the same angle.
If I were talking about meeting Johnny down at the local DQ for some informal racing, then I could sing praise to the LS1/LT1 dominance from a bolt on point of view. If me and Biff could drop the wine and cheese long enough to run around the auto X I would also praise the better handling offered through the torque arm/SLA suspension and wider/lower stance.
Me being the coverall wearing dirt farmer that I am, however look at the F body as a also-ran when it comes to covering 1320 in the shortest time.
Maybe that is jaded and I'm selling the GM twins shorter than they deserve, but then again if we all agreed there would be no replies to any post and and a message board that went the way of the F body.....Gone
Rob
BTW what I was getting at with the rules post was that it is obvious that a Ford guy wrote them. Stacked the deck as it were.
Cheers

It's certainly nice to have some interesting topics. I know most people aren't willing to post their opinions for fear of what others might think, but I feel that the more I argue, or disagree, the more you or someone else will enlighten me in one way or another. It just sucks that you can't tell how sarcastic someone is sometimes.
Oh well, if I could have a cheap second car for racing, it would either be a fox body or a beetle.

hmmm, some of these bugs over here could definitely cause a lot of racers embarassment back in the states.

The long battle of Ford vs. Chevy will never be answered. There is always going to be some one that has more money spend on their car and faster than you. Just have to live with that fact.

There are plenty of those bugs in the states too, Nick! The bug scene is quite impressive. Anything over 1600 CCs is made to perform! Check this site out:
