Well, I went to the Chevrolet dealer in Homburg today about my warped rotors and am so frustrated I could scream. They told me that warped rotors are not covered under the warranty, when I know they are. I know people who have had them replaced twice under warranty. The rotors are crap, I've only had one hard stop on them since I got the car. They also saw the K&N oil filter on it and told me that due to the oil filter, if I have an engine problem, it won't be covered under warranty since it isn't a AC oil filter. What a bunch of bull!!!! It makes no sense to void a warranty over an oil filter that is better than what AC Delco makes. They are ordering a oil pan gasket and rear main seal due to a small leak, but I'm not sure I want to let them touch it if they are that stupid over the rotors. Any suggestions. I've emailed Chevrolet, but haven't heard back from them yet.

I know it's a bit further to drive, but you could try to contact the Opel place in Bitburg - they have enough experience with GM cars, and the guy who worked on the alternator of my car seemed pretty knowledgable ...

I'm so fed up with the car repair places around here Jerry. It's like they only care about making money, and not about the customer- AT ALL. I had to pay for rotors too once, when I took the car there. What a crock. I'm sorry.

KC10A, let's look at the bigger picture:
All your warranty claims will be processed and paid for by Opel AG, a daughter company of GM. GM is not doing very well financially and Opel is technically bancrupt, so I will bet my last dollar that the dealers have instructions from HQ to turn down each and every warranty claim (that they think they can get away with). Brake disks is an easy refusal, since it is wear&tear items. The dealer is not going to replace anything if they know that they will not be refunded by Opel/GM.
Even though the dealer/workshop manager might behave like a pr*ck to you, ultimately they are only the messengers that bring you the bad news.

Jack, true that the dealers are only interested in your money. Workshop managers are given a target of selling X amount of workshop hours per month (or they have to find other employment), so if you go near a workshop then you are going to make up some of those hours. Workshops are not there as a service to be nice to customers, they are nowadays seen as profit centers for the dealers.

It's a greedy world we are living in and your only recourse is to vote with your wallet. Screwed by GM, buy something else and get screwed there.

Roy, I only have a little over 18,000 miles on it.

2Slow, If workshops only look at customers as a way to make money, they won't be in business very long, or at least they wouldn't be in the states. A successful businessman is always worried about service, that is why they are successful.

I worked in a ford dealership for about 2 years and all dealerships will do what they can to refuse warrenty work although they should do it because like you said the type of oil filter you got does not affect the warrenty but they will try to so you did something wrong if you did it yourself

Most shops usually cover Brakes for 1yr or 12,000 in Germany. It is not a warranty item . But with that said I have a bout a dozen sets replaced by Opel Haus Mainz . But Alas They only work on Opels Now. 18,000 miles on a car would be asking a lot from a dealer to replace wear items.

Jerry, I contacted the Opel dealership in Amberg about my rotors. They are being replaced under warranty with new slotted rotors. All I have to pay for is the brake pads. Contact Mr. Biedemeier @ 09621-678138. I think he is on leave this week but he will cover anything. My car has almost 20K miles on it. All I had to do was tell him the problem, fax him a copy of my Vin #, and make an appointment. I know it is a long drive but maybe he can send the rotors to an Opel dealership near you and have them install the rotors.

NXZ28, thanks for the info. I'll give him a call on Monday and see if he can fix me up. He definitely seems more service oriented than the a$$holes down here. I can understand if they were worn out, but the problem is they are warped, not worn out. Everyone that knows anything about Camaros knows that the rotors are a piece of crap.

Yes, he is still there. I'm not at all impressed with him. What a a$$. If I was in the states, there would be no problem. A while back I saw a place on the internet that had the service bulletin on the rotors, but the link doesn't work anymore. Guess I'll just have to fight with them. I'm going to call the guy Don told me about and see what he says. If they won't fix them, I'll put some good ones on.

Brake Warranty Service and Procedures

Models:
1999-2004 All GM Passenger Cars and Trucks
2003-2004 HUMMER H2

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to update GM's Standard Brake Service Procedures and Policy Guidelines for Brake Rotor and Brake Pad Service and Wear.

This bulletin cancels and supersedes Corporate Bulletin Numbers 01-05-23-001A and 00-05-23-002B.

Please discard Corporate Bulletin Numbers 00-05-22-002B, 01-05-23-001A and 00-05-23-002B (Section 05 - Brakes).

For your convenience, this bulletin updates and centralizes all GM's Standard Brake Service Procedures and Policy Guidelines for brake rotor and brake pad service and wear. For additional information, reference Service Know-How Courses # 10280.13D and # 15040.01V.

Important: PLEASE FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THESE UPDATES BEFORE PERFORMING YOUR NEXT GM BRAKE SERVICE.

There are five (5) key steps that must be performed to complete a successful brake service:

1. Measure and Document Rotor Thickness* - determine rotor refinish/replace

2. Clean Mating Surfaces - hub, rotor and wheel

3. Proper Rotor Refinish and Documentation

4. Measure, Document and Correct Lateral Run Out (LRO)** - Maximum 0.050 mm (0.002 in)

5. Reassemble with Proper Torque - wheel lug nuts


*The bulletin refers to Minimum Thickness specification (stamped on the back of the rotor) as the minimum allowable thickness after refinish. Refer to SI to verify specifications.

**The bulletin will refer to LRO maximum specification as 0.002 in. However, some trucks may slightly differ - refer to SI to verify specifications.





Bulletin Format








The following are required measurements that MUST be written/documented on the repair order, or for your convenience, complete the form (GM Brake Service Repair Order Documentation for Required Measurements) shown and attach it to the repair order. If the Warranty Parts Center generates a request, this Documentation/Form must be attached to the repair order that is sent back.

Repair Order Documentation - Rotor Original And Refinished Thickness - REQUIRED

When resurfacing a brake rotor or drum, the ORIGINAL thickness (measured thickness before refinish) and REFINISHED thickness (measured thickness after refinish) MUST be written/documented on the repair order hard copy for each rotor serviced. If a rotor replacement is necessary, only the Original thickness measurement needs to be recorded.

Repair Order Documentation - Lateral Run Out (LRO) and Correctional Plate Part Number - REQUIRED

Anytime a new or refinished brake rotor is installed or machined on a vehicle, the rotor assembly MUST be measured for Lateral Run Out (LRO). If the LRO measurement is greater than 0.050 mm (0.002 in), correct it by using the proper Brake Align(R) Correctional Plate (DO NOT refinish new rotors or newly refinished rotors to correct LRO). This LRO measurement, and the Correctional Plate part number used to correct the LRO, MUST be written/documented on the repair order hard copy. If no correction is necessary, only the LRO measurement for each rotor serviced needs to be recorded.

Important: Correction plates can only be used on Hubless rotor design. A correction plate part number can not be used with Hubbed, Trapped or Captured type designed rotors.

Warranty System Documentation - Lateral Run Out (LRO) - REQUIRED

When a Labor Operation pertaining to a rotor service is used, the Lateral Run Out (LRO) measurement (as measured in the "Repair Order Documentation - Lateral Run Out" section above) MUST be documented in the Warranty System (WINS) in the Failure Code field of the claim submission (refer to the Claims Processing Manual, Section IV, Warranty Claim Data, page 6, Item G) and correspond to the Labor Operation used.

Important: The left side (drivers side) is recorded first, then an R for right side (passenger side), then record the right side measurement.

Example: If the Labor Operation H0042 (both front) is used and the left front rotor LRO measurement is 0.050 mm (0.002 in) and the right front rotor measurement is 0.089 mm (0.0035 in), it should be recorded as 02R03. If the Labor Operation H0043 (both rear) is used and the left rear rotor LRO measurement is 0.050 mm (0.002 in) and the right rear rotor measurement is 0.089 mm (0.0035 in), it should be recorded as 02R03. If a single side labor operation for the front or rear is used, use the following documentation format. If the left side is 0.050 mm (0.002 in), then record as O2RNA. If the right is 0.089 mm (0.0035 in), then record as NARO3 (NA = Not Applicable).

Repair Order Documentation - Explanation of Part Replacement - REQUIRED

If replacement of a brake component is necessary, proper documentation on the repair order is required. See the following examples:

^ Brake rotor replacement - Customer comment was brake pulsation. Rotor was refinished on a prior brake service. After rotor measurement, it was determined that refinishing the rotor again would take it under the Minimum Thickness specification.

^ Brake pad replacement - Customer comment was brake squeak noise. On inspection, found pads contaminated by fluid leak at caliper.


WARRANTY INFORMATION





For vehicles repaired under warranty, use the table.
