Somebody interested buying a 1999 Camaro Z28?
Problem is, that I blew my engine. Some conrods broke and punched a hole in the floor pan.
I haven’t seen it yet, but that’s what the garage said.

I do not want to spend thousands of Euro on the repair, so I like to sell the car.
I called a GM dealer and they said, an exchange engine would cost me 10.000EUR.
So it is interesting for people who can repair this themselves or want to put in another engine.

The car is European model, meets Euro2, bright red,
has 47000km on the clock, with 6-speed manual, T-Tops, Leather, 12-CD changer.

It is stock with the following exceptions:
19inch alloys,
Geiger (H&R) lowering springs
Bilstein HD shocks
BMR swaybars (32/ 21mm)
Global West LCA and Panhardrod
BMR LCA relocation brackets (weld in)
Kenny Brown welded subframes
Movit (Porsche GT3) 4 caliper brakes (330mm dia, drilled)
Front suspension: PA Racing lower a arms and Global West upper a-arms (currently not installed)
almost new tyres Falken FK451 245/35 ZR19 (maybe 5000km),
Dynomax twin exhaust (2,5 inch pipes)
SLP cold air induction package (high flow lid, K&N filter, smooth bellow + sheet metal duct)
Additional engine oil intercooler
central locking with aftermarket remote control.

I was thinking of 10.000EUR.

BUT THAN I MADE A MESS OF IT and now its gone!

ow man.... I'm very sorry to hear that...

I just read the story of how you got your Camaro while being in India etc. and thought that was so cool....

You definitely wanna sell it? I'm sure some pro's here would help you fix it if it's fixable...

good luck anyways

Vadim

Sod the GM dealer and his Euro 10 000 price, fix it yourself. Even if the current motor is completely stuffed, I am sure that you can buy a nice, powerful crate motor for less money and install it yourself.

Well, this is now the second chapter in the vicious spiral downwards.
It all started on a sunny day on the Autobahn on October 22nd, when I wanted to shift from 4th to 5th and got stuck.
Instead of going back to fourth I ended up in second gear at around 180km/h.
The rear wheels blocked, the engine screamed and overrevved. I was in second gear for less than a second, but this was long enough, so that three pistons and their valves collided.
The garage took out the engine, replaced three pistons, 5 valves, timing chain and some conrod bearings.
The bill for the parts alone was 1900EUR (3 pistons, 5 valves and lots of gaskets, bolts and stuff).
All including labour was 5000EUR.
Two days after getting the car back when I drove at 5000rpm in 5th gear, the engine started shaking, I shifted into sixth, easing the throttle and than came a big bang, rearview mirror showing clouds of smoke.
Rolling out on the Autobahn, waiting for the ADAC.
BTW: it was a splendid sunny day.

I called the garage: They think it is unlikely that they did something wrong. They blame it on my mis-shift. Maybe the conrods have been affected too.
Whatever will come out of the discussion tomorrow – I do not want to pay again for such repair.

If someone is interested to give the Camaro a second life, price is negotiable.
Except from the engine, the rest of the car is in good condition.

Thanx for your offer Hawk! Let us see, how the engine looks like tomorrow.

BTW: A virus is taking over control on my PC. Have to reboot every 10min. Need to see my systems administrator at Christmas.

Please, ask some friends or not-yet-fbody-infected persons with some mechanical skills if someone is interested to buy the car!

I feel that the best time with the Z28 is gone.

GM/Opel dealers should be put out of business, and should NOT be allowed to make repairs on Chevys/Pontiacs. :x I'm sorry to see that I am far from alone in this respect.

Dude, take your time, buy a beat up old car and drive it this winter. You'll never get the money out of it with a blown motor. Let Hawk help you out. Your car will be stronger and you'll love even more. Sometimes, the juice is worth the squeeze

You'll really regret selling it as sson as you do sell it.

Jason's right, with the blown motor, you'd have to be lucky to get even half of the asking amount out of it ...

Never thought the day would come, but I have to agree with Daddy. Take some time out and see how you feel in a couple of weeks.

It's in our nature to make haste out of waist. Listen to what everyone else has said mainly Daddy and Hawk. Believe Jack, Bruce and I know 1st hand what it's like down that road. Give yourself some time though and let things cool down a bit before making a decision like that.

They are right too in the fact you won't get what your asking for in it's current condition as well. If you do still decide to get rid of it after your cool down period your best bet is to part it out. You'll definetly make your money back that way or at least break even. And if you do go that route I'll want dibs on the GT3 brakes. :D

Again I'm sorry to hear of the news and hopefully everything works out for you in the end.

1) I have to agree to everything what the others said before.

2) AFAIK a new (99 stock) engine can be bought for about 5000 Euro, no way does it cost 10000.

12405 Rotating-Assembly, "ZL-383" LS1 (Low Compression) $2469.99

With the Euro rate that's like 9€. I'm sure one of us could have this here in a few days.

for a brand new LS1-engine you must pay by a chevrolet dealer here in germany 9.800,- Euro incl. tax. That´s the official price here in germany.

Don´t sell your car, buy a wrecked camaro or a used ls1-engine in the states. It is the best, you can do.
