3 years on an Optima??? You don't have to replace an Optima, and if you do it will be for free. If you really want to waste your money, though, try the local Auto parts store. That's where I got mine and my wife's.

Sorry for the confusion. I still have the oem battery. I had heard some AAFES facilities had them, I know we don't here in Stuttgart though.

They do carry them here at Vogelweh. 99 bucks for a red top and 650 cold cranking amps at that. Warranty? I think you need the receipt and the paper work filled out before they'll let you swap them I believe. I need a new one already and mine isnt a yrs old.

I almost blew up my red top in my Syclone...talk about amusing seeing a grown man run across the parking lot full sprint and do the long distance toss with battery trying to get it away from all the trucks at the car show.

Guess you'll have to elaborate a bit on that, Sygoat

Yes, Sygoat, elaborate!
Well, I went and picked one up this weekend. I suppose I needed it more than I thought I did. At least might lights don't dim anymore when the bass hits! That is one hell of a battery...

Well it was the annual Syclone / Typhoon gathering that occured near Giessen last summer. I had drove up the morning of from Mannheim after having just gotten my Syclone running (albeit breifly as I later learned of other problems) the night before.
So I had driven that distance (What is that? 70miles?) and then I caught a crew of people leaving to go to the local ATU and I was cruising with them. Well a couple of them were playing around so I started playing with them too listening to my new BOV (Sucker sounds mean). I was running the 3bar chip and bigger turbo so out of the lot of them I was definately the fastest.
After the long drives we arrived back to the meeting spot and popped the hood (engine running) to find the source of a weird high pitch screaming sound. It was at that moment that we noticed the Redtop was bulging and making some weird bubbling noises (not good) first instinct was to turn the ignition off. I pulled the key out and the damn engine was still running!!!@@@!1
Next thing was to disconnect the battery and run as far far away with it as possible. Left the damn thing out there over night. It never did explode but damn it was a horrible sound. Upon further inspection the pulley on the Alternator was wrong sized and I was missing a balancer pulley that everyone else had. Weird. "He said POOP" you don't think to look for when you buy a f*cked up vehicle from a German that does a halfassed engine install and hides it from you by limiting boost to only 7psi.
Maybe one day this vehicle will run right again...maybe one day.

DAmn you are one brave mofo. I would have driven the truck away from everyone else before I would just grab the battery. I've had battery acid shot at me, so I know how NOT FUN it is.
