If a guy from Poland wanted to buy my car, is there any way he could get temporary German plates if he picked it up? He claims that several people he knows have done this, but I don't have the slightest clue as to what all it entails. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why isn't he taking them in Poland? I'm sure it's cheaper there!

Well I just called and they said it's no problem. He needs the owners document and to go take an Insurance. Then he goes to the admission office and takes the plates.

You mean he needs to provide proof of insurance from Poland?

Forget about what I said. I forgot you car is not from Germany and was never registered in Germany, so other rules here. The only way he can take the car is get the papers from you and register the car in Poland and then he can pick it up with his new plates. An alternative but expensive way would be to transport/ship the car. Either he has a Jeep so he can wire it or a trailer. Or you just drive with him to Polland and he pays your ticket back.
Good luck!

Yes, Jack - when I totalled my Camaro, and they bought the scraps for 900 Euros, I had to do as if I was selling my car to a local national and go to the CustomsLiason office and start the customs paperwork...because, when you sell it someone has to pay the 16% tax...So I started the paperwork, signed it...sent it to the guy who bought it, he signed it then I returned to the Customs office, they signed it and stamped/sealed it...and stamped and sealed one of the copies of my registration....if I had a lein, I had to get a lein release statement/ or obtain the title for the car in the meantme....after all that I gave the Registration copy (switch owndership) and title to the new owner.

Sounds tedious. Wonder what someone would be willing to pay for the SRZ?

It's a real PITA, but I would really like to sell it and get a 1st gen. There is a '68 in the KA, but I can't pursue it until I get rid of this one.

Because I got it tax free. I don't really think they would require him to pay taxes, but I could be wrong. I will try to find out from the Zollamt.

Jack, K-town or Ramstein should have a customs liason office....ask them everything...or ask Pass and Reg for Mannheim, since all our cars are reg'd thru them.
I doubt he will have to pay German tax, I'm guessings only the Polish ones.
BTW, I now miss my 'Maro
Ever here of a Gold 97' Z crashed on the A1 autobahn on December 1st, 2002? That was me, and the recieving end of a drunk driver
