I'm thinking
A older Miata
Volks wagen 1st or 2nd gen Golf
Any others?
Also looking that it has a pretty good source of plentiful parts , Both Aftermarket and OEM.

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Counter question: What makes up a good ring car? :-) (Rear wheel drive?)

The bad thing with that is , With me driving the FOD , It willl run circles around your Fbody with only a 600 Euro investment.

My most impressive (passenger) laps on the Ring:

1. BMW M1 (former pro race driver)
2. VW Golf 3 (modified of course & very experienced amateur driver)
3. Porsche GT3 (2 different persons/cars, but Stef was faster  )
4. Caterham (unfortunately too much wind for my taste)

Actually what impressed me most concerning the car - price - fun relationsship was the Golf.

Most ring guys I know recommend either Golf 2 or 3 or BMW 3 series cars (E30) as fun but cheap Ring tools.

Ben

The best of all worlds would be a BMW 325 E30 hands down !

- Plenty of power
- Good suspension of factory
- Cheap !!

These cars you can strip and modify them to be awesome Ring cars without spending too much money.
The engines are still among the best (gotta love that inline 6) and the suspension setup is VERy good and has lots of potential left for tweaking not too mention that the aftermarket has an unlimited supply of parts and tweaks for it.
Especially living in Germany this would be the VERY BEST choice !

Btw if you look at mobile.de you'll find several already Race prepped for good prices !

A convertible would probably the worst choice for ANY budget racer car, sorry.
Might only be usefull in this specific concept for parts.

There appears to be a very nice looking BMW being sold here in Mannheim.

Roy, let me know and I'll look it over if you're interested.

yeah sure thing. Looks to be in excellent shape except for a missing bumper cover in the rear.

I'll look at it on the way home and get a number.

How about an 87 Opel Manta? Drop in a 3.0L 6 cylinder out of a senator. I had one and it would take the corners. Of course it was a little under powered with a 2.0L.

agree - granted you won't have the hp, but w/ a miata, you could set it up like the SCCA Spec miata series cars and be good to go on the ring. Plenty of OEM/aftermarket supported race equipment and much cheaper than our big, heavy V8 cars.
