Finally i can get started building a decent motor this winter to concur the american muscle power on the auto X in bitburg.

Now lets see how much boost these puppies will hold :D

jeejee - where is the best to buy a used dutch car running on LPG - without being cheated on? what do I have to look out for? I got no experience on gas...
What is better: to register the car in Holland or in Germany?
with almost 90 000 km per year and the current gas prices I got to change something - I do not want to sell my (tow-)truck, but want to drive cheaper during off-season.

Over on Bandit Online they were talking about changing over to LPG ... conversion of a regular car is supposed to be in the area of 1500-2000€ ... But with about 50% less cost for the fuel, it shouldn't be a problem to save that in a short time ...

Was thinking about checking into that, too ... I could throw out the spare in the front and put the gas tank there -- if it's allowed ...

If you need an address for the conversion: you have seen an older red mustang convertible with KL license plates got converted for about 1500 just recently - was at Bitburg several times this summer, long time friend of mine, Werner.
Now Don is saying: those engines are no ways build to drive on gas - it is already bad to drive unleaded, but now LPG? He is waiting for Werner to blow his motor - besides it is running crappy on benzine when no gas is available - and Werner has already plans to get a bigger motor and add NOS (of course without LPG - that would be a funny mixture :lol: )

But since I am talking about a cheaper daily autobahn driver and not a specific muscle car, I rather buy one already set up for gas than go through that procedure for a beater. Assuming the dutch got more experience - where better do I look for one than in Holland?

On the Nissan - Diesel I already asked to buy one on alternate Bio Diesel or whatever three years ago: Nissan voids any warranty of cars changed over. They won't sell them, they won't change them, and I will loose all warranty of the car - even if it has nothing to do with the type of gas - is what I was told. So not worth trying on a newer model there either - that is what you got to take into consideration of newer models of other brands as well.

So this is not new to me, I am driving a lot of km since many years, and I am looking for alternate fuel possibilities since a long time, and I am still collecting information without a final best result. The downside on LPG is: you do not get it everywhere in Germany. Lately a little more places. And if you run on benzine the car does not run good. Because you can set up the carb for one but not for both at the same time. That is what I was told.

I guess. Tell me if I am wrong. :?

if the car runs bad on petrol when converted to lpg , there is something not quite right :-(

What most of the time is the case is that when you can run cheap on lpg, you never bother to drive the car on petrol anymore.
because of that. after some years / 50-100.00 km's fuel lines and injectors and other stuff get clogged/ poreus. and the petrol in the fuel tank isn't exactely of high quality anymore either....

But in germany where lpg is still not everywere available, occasional running on normal petrol can't be avoided anyway i think.

The more recent lpg systems start when cold on petrol and then switch over on lpg within a minute.
the advatage is that you have all the sofiticated original petrol systems to make sure the engine starts and idles nice and the chance of a backfire on startup gets reduced allso.
+ all petrol stuff stays in good condition :)

As far as cheap / good adress to buy an lpg car, that migt be a problem as the lpg system needs to be serviced / checked somewhat more often and you need an adress close to you whom knows the system well enough to service / repair it.
That might be a problem when buying a lpg car in holland and driving it in germany :? as it might use a system not known / familiair to german lpg systems

I'm not quite sure what would happen if you were to buy a dutch lpg car and run it in germany as far as road tax / insurance is concerned
I would not be surprised that as a foreigner you cannot register a car unless exported :?
And dutch road tax on a lpg car younger than 25 yers is quite expensive

Allso, would the german tüv accept an lpg car build on another legislation then the german.

I think it is not all that simple.

the black and blue to the left is the weight of the car inc. lpg stuff ..eg . from 951kilo to 1050 kilo's

the lpg G3 in the green is a sofisticated lpg injection system that only some cars are type appoved for all other lpg system are NON g3
In red is normal petrol (benzine) price.

The Mustang and a few other cars got converted to gas just recently so the case of bad lines/clogged systems/old petrol should not apply - it is what I thought: The germans have no experience with that conversion yet!

About the german tax: We pay for the engine size, per cubic. For example the Mustang: Normal registered, then converted to run both. Still pays regular tax as before, there is no tax for LPG - yet, since in the past there was almost nobody running on LPG - this may change in the future though. For the diesel engines we pay more, therefore the diesel fuel was not that expensive. "was".
So the best way to go right now would be paying the german tax per cubic and drive on LPG.

At servicing the system: I am at least once each month in Holland, just a matter of good scheduling.

Then, are we not all EU by now? Lets see what I can find out about TÜV and Export/Import between EU countries. Now I better don't make a public post if I come up with some good info - otherwise all Germans run to Holland to buy your good cars... :wink:
