It can't be England (because the sun is shining), South Africa doesn't have a track like that, the driver isn't Japanese or Indian, so it must be an AUSTRALIAN hero who will have to explain to mom what he did with her car...

Well if it's an MR2 then he doesn't have to worry about the engine.

It's not a 1st/2nd gen MR, not sure if it could be the current version ... losing the end like he did it might have been one ... don't think he would have oversteered that much with a front engine car ... Stef, what's your verdict?

It looks lika a late model Corolla (front wheel drive). The cause of the spin was the downshift (weight-shift onto the front wheels) and then turning in on a trailing throttle (unloaded rear end sweep around). FWD cars do that.

Yes, you can get the same reaction, but the vehicle dynamics is very different ...
Downshift a fwd and you will have a lot of weight transfered forward. This puts a lot of traction authority on the front wheels and less on the unloaded rear wheels. Turn in and you spin.
Downshift a rwd and you will also have an amount (but not enough) of weight transfered forward (only up to the point where the rear wheels block, then no more weight transfer takes place). The rwd spin usually happens because of blocked rear wheels (which you have to provoke) and not because of an unloaded rear end (which seems to smoothly turn a fwd around).
One rwd exception though (that doesn't need blocked wheels to spin).... a Porsche 911.... shift the weight forward in mid bend and that heavy tail will come around on you quicker than you can say "oh SH*T!"
That's why 911's have narrow front wheels to make sure that there are not too much grip on the front.
