"DETROIT — General Motors Corp. (GM) will eliminate 30,000 manufacturing jobs and close nine North American assembly, stamping and powertrain plants by 2008 as part of an effort to get production in line with demand."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,176199,00.html

on a positive note, this could be a good time to buy GM stock

"Last week, after the automaker's shares fell to their lowest level in 18 years, Wagoner sent an e-mail to employees saying the company has a turnaround strategy in place and has no plans to file for bankruptcy"

Eventually, they'll bounce back

If the "Rick" can
(a) kick Gettelfinger and his UAW militants up the ass
(b) make sure that Delphi's debt don't stick to GM (Dephi debt = GM's share worth)
he might just make it. If you have "very long term" investment money available, it might be a good idea. Short term it might get even worse before it get better, since GM's been dozing against the Asian onslaught.

Maybe Porsche will buy out GM like MB did Chrysler. Does that mean BMW will soon buy Ford?
