All of these will be out of 4 bangers so they'll be alittle shorter than the LS1/LT1/Mopar360 rods from before. The autocraft shop is giving them to me for FREE I just have to pull them out of the blocks.

Keith, I'll start checking to see when Road Atlanta will have spectator days and mybe we can get together for some track racing. Also trying to track down the auto/X scene. quote]

Check out the SCCA Website. They have an Atlanta Chapter that races at the Turner Field parking lot for autoX. They usually have the Road Atlanta schedule on their website as well. Or they did when I was there a couple years ago.

I think for an autoX if you were not a member it was like $30 and $20 or $25 if you were a member of SCCA (around $75 annual fee).

This is the 2006 SCCA Solo rulebook.
http://scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/2006_solo_rules.pdf

Start reading, I think you'll fit in either SM or SM2. SM is for cars that came with 4 seats, but you might be over the displacement limit and have to bump up to SM2. I know I'm headed for SM2 (that's what I've been planning my modifications around, unfortunately the rules are wide open short of gutting the car so we're up against some big money

short version of SM/SM2
OEM Engine block, the rest of the drivetrain is open
OEM suspension mounting locations, the rest is open
Must have a functional parking brake, the rest is open
Min weight for me was something impossible like 2,400lbs

DAMM!! Sounds like either I have alot of mods ahead of me to be competitive or turn the 73 Firebird into a track killer. The GTM is sounding better and better. By the time I spend that kind of $$ to compete I could build the GTM for racing.

Looking into the Open road racing stuff also, if there was a way to make that happen would you be in for a road trip to Neveda?? I'd be up to racing you there and back

There are some hill climb type events in the southeast. Same format, but I think you need a cage, fire supression system, ect and I'm not sure I'd risk the vette in one of those.

Before I do an open road event, I'd want my car at least finished to the point that I could do the higher speed stuff, so it'll be at least another year or so (get the mechanical stuff sorted out for next year, then do the cage and body work the next) The slower classes seem like a lot of work just to drive fast on a public road, like bracket racing, you can't go above a set speed and have to finish at exactly the right time any faster and you DQ, but if you've got all the gear in the car, it's just balls out fastest time wins

I hear you about the SCCA rule book, I'm stuck with putting the stock calipers back on the car and getting beat by Z06s in AS or spending a ton of money and going to SM2. I toyed with the idea of building it to T1 specs, but by the time I could get into T1 the car would be so out of date it wouldn't have a chance at winning and with the Vipers now in T1 and the SCCA debating on what to do with the C6 Z06 who knows whats going to happen with the touring class cars so if I ever go wheel-to-wheel it probably won't be in this car :( so I'm just building it to be a reasonably competitive autoX car and fun/safe trackday car and after several years, maybe I can buy a dedicated race car and go wheel-to-wheel.

I'm thinking one of these....

Isn't there some type of LAW against saying those two words in the same sentence.

Why, Roy? Don't you want to see an SUV do a 180 ... sideways? :)

Did you pull Joe's shifter ball off too!? He's really gotta fix that thing.

Did you run his SRT-4 this last weekend after his suspension mods? What did you think?

No it was the weekend that it rained hard and there was lots of drifting going on. Once Joe got it down he was going good.

You're supposed to go AROUND the cones, not hit them!
