I'd like to import my Intruder to the US for personal use. I got those Declaration Forms for Importation of Motor Vehicles... and EPA Form 3520-1 ... but I am simply lost - on most of the questions I do not know the answer. If I found somebody with knowledge on customs procedures on used bikes... would be great and appreciated.

I bought the Intruder from a US civilian, it is US specs, year 87, if possible import under code B or wait for another year and import under code E ?

Anybody?

If you were to move to the states, where would you go?

??? Are try to get closer to me?

Hmmm if it is a US Spec bile then I don't think you would have a problem. I do know that if it has to be "imported" it has to go through a REGISTERED IMPORTER. There is one in Miami and I think WPB. The NTHSA http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/ has listings of registered EPA importers. Was it registered under the German system? If not then you MIHGT be able to claim it was a military vehicle and waive the import tarrifs. It is worth a shot if you can prove the USAREUR registration.

Wouldn't it be cheaper and simpler to just buy one in the States? Or rent one when you actually want/need one? ;)

No it is not simpler to just rent one in the states.

I bought it from an US civilian two years ago, I have a copy of his USAREUR registration.
It is a collectible by now what I was told. The Intruder 1400 in year 87 changed from 4-gear to 5-gear following Harley already went to 5-gear. It will not pass german inspection without changes, including the exhaust system. I would like to ride that bike, but rather on a Florida Highway than killing myself on a German Autobahn. This is the motorcycle I was dreaming about 20 years ago, and I got no plan of selling it and buy or rent another one... even though I was offered 8 x the price I paid for it.
Also, I got to get the drivers license for the motorcycle first, I do not have one yet. May be easier and for sure cheaper in FL. The FL motorcycle license is not accepted for transfer into GE license.

That is why I plan to bring my bike to Florida and keep it there.

Hmm Daytona should be a good place. With all the Speed Weeks and Bike Weeks going on. Some one will need a translator. You can try a search for Tourist Jobs. Maybe Disney World at EPCOT in the Germany pavilion, I could see you wearing a "drundel" I think it is called. ;)

I don't think that I want to wear a Dirndl.

Last time as I was at Hooters somebody asked me if I work there

I love my Jeans

when I was 4 I fighted my first Jeans - my parents thought they are
more useful for horse back riding and tractor driving and farm work

today they wish they let me wear my cute little dresses
