F-Body Europe

As we all know the 10 bolt in the f-body isn't exactly the strongest rearend in the world. As soon as you put some hp above 375 your going to be replacing it and or parts of it very soon. I've been looking at the 12 bolt and 9in. Alot of folks don't like the idea of having a "Ford" product in their F-body, I'm looking for the one that will last and stand up to the abuse day after day. There both right around $2000 and will both bolt right in to include ABS and TCS. Alot of folks on the LS1Tech board have the 12bolt and have been having major problems with them. They have also said that they "whine" pretty bad, haven't heard hardly anything about the 9in. What do you all think?
Hawk I know you've got the 9in in yours and are very happy with it, I'm also looking at price too.

I'm deffinitely going to get a 9 inch. More so now since you say people have been having troubles with the 12 bolt. The price is very close so why not get the better rear?

Yeah, the price isn't that different. The Ford is definitely the better of the two, especially when it comes to 500+ HP applications. Good luck..

mine is good for 800 Hapees worryless launches@ 4800. Check out http://www.currieenterprises.com I went with the 9 in plus 1900 before upgrades 2500 complete and shipped it BAX. for 375.

What's good with the 9 inch is you can change gears easier.

I like fact that I can change the gears in little time and realiablity of the 9in. My only concern is gear "whine". How strong is Currie's 9in in comparision to Moser or Strange? Will the driveshaft have to be changed??

There are actually people who have problems with the 9". There are a few who say that at high speeds there is a vibration due to the fact a 9" has a different angle, I'm not talking pinion angle either. Has to do with the way the pinion is angled on the ring gear.

Personally for me it will be whatever is cheaper I know a 12 bolt wil hold all the power any of us would throw at it.

The Ford nine inch is the strongest production passenger /light truck axle ever built. I was rebuilding these bastards when I was 15 I hve very few problems with except for grinding up spider gears every now and then. The 9" inch is also known as the poor mans qick change. But of course through constant abuse and probably the use of inferior products in building the 9inch for the aftermarket, there will be breakage. Build it with quality parts and it will hold together , this is also true for the 12bolt.

This should take alot of the work out of a custom rear end for you I have the Specs on the AXELS and housing if you need them.

I went with the 9" because it does not have c clips and this setup is good for 800Hapees and worry free 4800+ launches. 12 bolts are good for 550 and the upgrades were more expensive and harder to work on. These guys would not reccomend the 12 bolt with my setup because I was too close to that number with a M6.

You've sold me!! If the only time you get vibration is at 170mph then it looks like Currie will be the one! With the 3.89s what are you taching at 80mph? Did you have to make any adjustments (to make it fit)when you put it in, ie to the sway bar, torque arm or lower control arms??

No mods it bolted right in 2600@ 100MPH

Roy, I heard that the Dana 60 out of old Mopars was the strongest ever that came from the factory. I think it had like a 9.75" ring gear? You know anything about them?

Jeff a Dana 60/70 is a upgraded 12 bolt from what I have heard. Dana 44 is based on a 10 bolt and Dana 60 is based on the 12 bolt. That is what I heard and I could be wrong however the 9" rocks and that is a fact. This is a large $$$$1X investment so get what you need and do your homework.

Cheap 9" http://www.quickperformance.com This woulda saved me a $1000 or so.
