On my 99 Z the brakes went buggy after a rather sudden stop from 230 kmh on ABahn. After this whenever i went more then round 100 kmh and braked i had the drrrrrrrrrr.... sound and the car started rattling. When my inspections was due i told the local GM guys bout the problem and hoped for the best. 4 days later i had brand new rotors, pads and stuff installed for free!
Explanation: The brake system on the US models and Z28s sold to Germany are far too weak for speeds of more than 100 mph and then whack it, they run in and overheat resulting in a warped rotor. So they put stronger ones up front for free (!) when the customer complains (!!) or comes in with destroyed ones (!!!) - so much for safety.
The guy was talkative so i pushed the matter and what he said was, that in the states due to the speed limit they simply designed the thing too weak to save costs. When they ship em here it´s still the same ones. So i was lucky i came to a stop at all. Mind it, the car had only about 6000 miles of cautious (did not drive to wild) driving on it.
Anyway i took a look at the rotors and compared em with a brand new car in the showroom (A 2001 Z28) and bingo - my new rotors are bigger and also have a slightly different color on the connection to the axle.
Weird story but seems to be true - the car stops mucht better now. You guys can take a look at it in spring.
So long.
