Ok So what is the extra 5,000 That Chevy tags on to wear the SS badge? Once again..dumb question but i'd rather hear it in people terms then some damn mechanic jargon that I don't have a clue about...I was raised on European cars..I don't know a damn thing about F-Bodys...cept that I want one. I'm trying to decide between a Z and a SS. What can I not do with a Z that i can do with an SS? Engine Differerences, Final Mod Differences? Any help would be golden.

Dont get me wrong, cuz I tend to come off kind of hard on the SS. I like them very much, and the people that have them are very lucky IMO. With that said, there is zero performance benifit between a V8 camaro/firebird or a SS/WS.6. Depending on the package that is on the SS/WS.6 you may get better/stiffer shocks, a torsen diff vs. a auburn, plus the ram air. Its that plaque by the ash tray, that make the SS special.

If you know your gonna mod, then I think you would be silly to buy a SS. If you want to keep your car stock then get the SS.

no offense Roy, Mike, George, Bruce, Dave and anyone else I forgot.

Cya

Rob is preety much correct . There is no difference in engine and brakes.
But there is a difference in rims (17inch) and tire size 275x40x17.

The SS hood is Fglass while the the stocker is steel.
Suspension wise, SS suspension (Depending on year) will run circles (small ones)around the stock Z28 when driven to the limit.

There is some other minor stuff that you can get from SLP when ordering yourcar, that is ifthey still were accepting orders.

Whoops I see your going for 98 SS

And the diffs are the same. Auburns for '98's, Torsens for '99 on. Whilst the SS may have better suspension, my guess is that it's marginal and think of the suspension and torque thrusts you could buy - and still have change from the SS money. It may be worth the extra money for the SS just so you can wash under the spoiler without getting your hand jammed. LOL.

Don't forget the exhaust.. It flows a little better.. :) I just like them, 'cause they come with everything most people upgrade to eventually.. If someone bought my car tomorrow, I'd order one in a heartbeat.. :D

Jack is absolutely right but I think it's more to do with cachet than logic. People buy BMW's even though the Ford Mondeo is as good. That SS badge is so much a part of Chevy legend that they take unfair advantage and charge for it. Fact is, however, that if you buy a standard Z28, you can pick your exhaust, you can pick your wheels and you can pick the mods you want to do. As a basic upgrade, for example, a Z28 with a K&N FIPK and a good cat-back has to be faster than an SS in standard form. With the SS, I suppose some of the mods you would do have, in a sense, already been done so you start modifying further up the ladder. I would definitely have an SS given the chance but I wouldn't pay the premium.

I call bull-puckey. Try to buy a SS WS6 or Firehawk on the German ecconomy. It is the fact that they are limited and not evry body has one that makes them worth the extra bones. I still run my SLP quite exhaust 17 inch wheels and I have a kewl hood. I think I could hold my own against a Z-28 Trans-am, Viper Porche TT or whatever pulls up side of me.LOL just my .02 cents

You can't buy one because of the stupid TUV... Everyone knows they are limited, but some either don't want to spend the extra cash, and/or just want to add their own, unique parts.. :)
