OK, need opinions on the sound of exhaust systems. I've heard the loudmouth and it's nice. What about the flowmaster (american thunder)? what about the corsa? Price is kinda of important wanna stay below $400. What would you do? I live in a very quite German neighborhood, I don't want to upset them either!

I am running the SLP quiet exhaust. It is quiet at a Idle but when I ronp on it it gets loud. I had a extra one but I traded it the other day. We modified it a little but it sounds tough on Gils car.

For noise levels at an idle will the loudmouth wake the neighbors at 0415? Gil how do you like the exhaust!? Did you notice a difference? Hawk, when you go for inspection did they give you a hard time for the exhaust noise? I don't want to put the system on there and not pass inspection.

Mine is a system based on the Loudmouth but using 2.5" stainless steel tubing. Instead of the hollow resonator before the back axle, it has a 12" "silencer" that is just a straight through can with a perforated inner pipe. I felt the system was about right but occasionally thought it was too quiet so I had the flat section of pipe under the driver's floor cut out and replaced with round 2.5" s/s tubing and it made a noticable difference to the noise volume. However, in either case, at idle or on the over-run, the noise is throbby but acceptable and a very light foot keeps the note that way. If you have to go up a hill or load the engine, they'll damn well hear you though but hey, I put up with them, they can put up with me. Suddenly I don't ever get asked whether it's a V8 any more.

Did you make your system? If you don't mind me asking how much did it cost? So did you notice a difference by replacing the flatten "Y" pipe? Did it make a difference in times or performance at all?

you haven't had any problem with the inspection guys here when it came to your exhaust? Do you recommend the steel wool trick before inspection?

See my other thread about the differences the cat-back made. In my view, the only consistent improvement was in top end speed which was 103 rather than 102. I did improve from 13.976 to 13.88 but I did 5 other runs that were no better than I got with the standard system. Most people reckon that you have to do both ends though ie a lid or an FIPK to show a real difference.
The system was custom-made by a firm called Longlife here in Wales. It cost £450 after a bit of haggling with slash cut 4" tips although he would have done it for £400 "cash". However, I paid another £80 for roll-out tips which some may consider "ricer" but if you can't beat em....
The performance may not have radically increased and I don't have a local dyno to feed my ego but the noise, rumble and V8 bark is worth £450. I'm sure it must produce more power but since a tenth of a second is an errant blink of the eye, let's not get carried away on splitting seconds to the nth degree.

And yes, I had the system fitted and took it back to get the flat pipe cut out. The replacement of that pipe made a noticable increase in volume. I guess it's like a clarinet where you alter the note by the angle of the reed. I suspect that the squashed pipe has a mooting effect on the note. I can't see any logical reason for it being flat. There's plenty of room above it and below it for a normal pipe.

I thinking really hard about the Flowmaster "American Thunder, has any body heard it? it's a 2 chamber muffler. I have one on the wifes Dodge4x4 with 3in pipes through 3 1/2 tips sound great to me, but every car sounds different. Summit Racing has it for $299 cat back. What do you think?

Val the steel wool trick real well for a temp fix. Plus the loud mouth is 100% S/S. I've only heard A/T Flowmaster on Mustangs and it was also a good sound. But that is apples and oranges.

Sven Ithink your key board is broke . It seems to only TYPE IN CAPS.

I have a flow master on my 98 and it sounds great.
The other thing is it was easy to fit and does not touch on the body .

As you know Bruce helped me out with the installation and a little modification of the SLP. I can tell you that it has a very nice combination. below 1500rpm it has a well behaved but nice rumble. better than stock but when you go over 2000 and over it sounds fantastic. It is a good conbination for quite neighborhood and letting the 911 have it on the twisties and the autobahn.

I really like it. If you would like to know the specifics on the modifications which Hawk did just let me know .

Big difference on power to the ground, very responsive. I feel like I can take anybody on except the hawk v6. lol

Great sound though and they won't kick you out of the neighborhood. sorry about taking a while to reply but I did not see this post.
