I almost had a heart attack today. I was exiting post and decided to clean out the cob webs 1-2 no problem 2-3 no problem but I was still into it and the oil pressure dropped down to fluttering around 20 and was a jumpin all around so I shut it down pulled off the road mad swearing shaking opened the hood looked around nothing outa place but I checked the oil and it was 1 qt low added 1 qt no more problems what happened is the nose rose and the oil went to the rear of the pan. I inform you of this because if you put a high volume/high pressure oil pump in you pumped up LS1 you had better check the oil and keep it at the top of the full line. You need to pay attention to oil pressure or else you could damage your engine. FYI everthing is OK however it does not take very long to hurt any engine without oil pressure. Check your oil and PMCS your ride at least weekly.

I would just like to add this to all the LS1 Folks. For any performance or spirited driving take a hint from the vette folks and put in one extra quart of oil. Your engine will love you for it.

the Firechicken was really happy with the extra oil at the auto-x and at the ring(brakes are a different story).

I also forgot to add that in the ZO6 vette manual, it is there in black and white.

I understand that being good for the engine e.g. on the N'ring but then it also has "too much" oil after that. I always thought "too much" oil is nearly as bad as not enough oil??

That would be the case on conventional smallblocks,where the crank nearly sits outside the block, but in the Ls1 the crankshaft sits much higher in the block then per se a LT1. So there is additional room in the oil pan for a higher oil level. Plus the LS1 comes with a windage tray.

So basically you are telling me to not follow your advice. Oh yeah, my car still doesn't have an engine.

Got a better solution for your inertia woes. Get an Accusump pre-oiler with a electric solenoid valve to actuate it when you turn your key to "run". Another benifit is it supplies oil under pressure to the motor BEFORE you crank it. Alot of you guys have sunk some serious dough into your engines. It only makes sense to prolong the life of it and have some backup oil pressure for those hard launches or deep corners.
I installed one on my car last fall and love it.

How much that thing cost. I think a extra quart of oil will hold me over and prevent this.

check out Accusump.com they sell direct. I paid just over 340.00 for my setup. Mine is the 3qt jobby. They make a 2qt too.
