I'll be coming to Wurtzburg, Germany in mid December with my '98 Camaro SS (57,000 miles - no problems/breakdowns to date, knock on wood). Can you all please advise me about things that I should do to prepare the car for autobahn speeds and the wear/tear of driving in Germany? I'd rather get everything I can done while I'm at home on leave right now than wait til I get there and find out what I should have done by breaking parts.

My current plans are replacing belts/hoses/spark plugs and wires, radiator flush and fill, synthetic oils (engine, trans & diff), new brakes/struts/shocks, 160 degree thermostat... ?(repack bearings)?, ?(upgrade suspension/brake components)?,

Welcome to the board, looking forward to have yet another F-Body over here ... filling up the empty places left by others PCSing ...

Well, depending on your driving style (at least the one you might have over here), you may want to look into getting little things ahead of time like transmission oil cooler (ask Roy ... he broke two or was it three transmissions while over here ...), maybe upgrade your brake system as the stock system doesn't really like stopping from high speeds more than once or twice in a row (again, Roy ... :))
More suggestions to come from our racers here, no doubt ... :)

Welcome! Not really dealing with the autobahn, but will it be your only car? If so, you might look at getting an undercoating on it. It might have it already depending on where in the states you are comming from. They put a LOT of salt on the roads here.

Try to buy a hooptie if you can. You should drive that in the Winter. Heed the advice on the brakes, as they will come in real handy.. Depending on how much $$$ you're willing to spend, http://www.movit.de makes an awesome GT2/3 brake conversion.. Ask Roy! ;)

Nice to see someone comming to the Wurzberg area. I am stationed at an airfield about 20ks from there. Alot of farmer fields, A3 sucks, and there is so much beer to drink. Mmmmm. If you want any specific info on the area, just send an email, we would be happy to answer any ?s you may have about the area.

BRAKES!! BRAKES!! BRAKES!!! Junked my 4th set then I upgraded to BEARS no more problems. If you wanna drive 160 MPH I would reccomend STB LCA SFC New Blisten shocks and springs. If your car has the 1LE RPO you have all the right stuff.

This is my only car so I'll probably look into picking up a POS to drive in the winter. Meanwhile, I'm looking into upgrading my brakes, a transmission oil cooler, new shocks and springs, and lower control arms in addition to the stuff I mentioned earlier. I talked to my local Chevrolet dealership and he mentioned repacking bearings, upgrading the cooling system w/ larger radiator, and possibly an engine oil sump - any more comments/advise would be greatly appreciated. What do you think? Thanks a ton.

Strut tower brace, brakes and a really good set of tires....

It's fun to drive over here if you have your car set up right..... and if you don't try anything to sumb... my buddy tried to take a cornor at 80+... the tree, 3 fence posts, fence and curb.... along with his car didn't appreciate it to much...... have fun and be safe!

Welcome to the board! Everybody is right on the money, I just got here in NOV 01 and brought over a brand new WS6(1500 miles). The brake rotors where warped by 6000 miles, I bought a set of Baer rotors off a buddy and Hawk HPS pads and problem solved! I put in SFC,LCA,PHB,STB,DSL,T/A,G-2 springs, Shocks(waiting on Bilstien,to ship them). The car was fine stock, except brakes, I changed it all for auto-x and racing in general. Your car should be fine depending how you drive(brakes) Hope to see you at some of the events.
