HotRod maybe you can help me out with this since you helped me install the kit....... but my car when I have it in D2 at a low RPM (around 2200) if I mash down on it.... it won't down shift into 1st for the extra pick up? My tranny has been rebuilt with a trans-go shift kit and I have since hooked up a Hypertech power programmer to it.....(yes I did select yes when it asked me if I had a shift kit in it).,.... my question is do you think I have to change my shift points in it since I didn't have this problem before I did the power programing??? and if so can someone help me out on how to.... I am not so confident in that field..... or does anyone know any performance settings??? Thanks in advance for the help!

Its all pretty self explainatory. You should have bought LT1 edit instead of that Crappertech its a very powerfull tool.
$300 is all it takes to get you set up...

Scott,
I was reading in GM HIgh-tech or one of those mags about some of the f-body's shift selectors only going down to 2nd. They said that only the cars that came with the high performance rear end (3.23) had the 1st gear option. This is achieved by a steel block that obstructs the shifter from going back any further. They went on to say that you could perform a simple removal procedure by taking off the center console and cutting out the block. For me not having 1st gear has been quite irritating at times, especially when I'm trying to rumble through post . As soon as I get back state side I am going to do it to my car. If I am pleased with it after I install my new Eaton diff and 3.23 gears along with the selector mod I may keep the vaunted 4L60E. If not, T56 here I come.
Good Luck I hope that this helps a little.

Sorry about the mix-up. I'll simplify for my audience. The before mentioned high performance gear (3.23)is the one issued by GM. The non-high performance being the 2.73. 2.73 equipped cars are the ones that have the before mentioned selection lever problem. That being they can only select as low as second gear. That is what the reply was about, not gears.

Phenoix,
Thanks for the info, and I have read the same article.... and that's not the problem I was reffering to.. infact I have the selector that goes all the way down to D1.... my problem is with the computer shift points.

If you do find a solution that works, please post it I would love to know. The other post was pretty much FYI, but like you said you had read it as well. Just hope that it helps somebody. The LT-1 Tech Stuff is the first column that I look at, my car often shares many of the same aliments as many of yours'. Personal trial and error accounts are priceless. I hope I can find a club this good in El Paso. Good Luck.

Sorry to hear it man. I have a similar problem myself, no overdrive??? It happened when I put the transgo/vigilante install. I had the tranny shop drop it 3 times and no luck. Funny thing is when it is in overdrive and I slow down and drop it in to drive it down shifts a few hundred rpm's, but when I put it in to overdrive = no rpm change??? Let me know what happens. Later, Mike
At 80mph I am at 4000rpm, not good...

Well I still have no clue what the heck is up with my tranny..... hmm I probably won't even figure it out.. as long as I down shift it manually it works just fine... so I am thinking that is the way it's supposed to work? Hmm well as I tell my wife..."I wouldn't have these problems if I has a 6 speed in the first place"

Roy,
It did it before I had the tranny re-built and the shift kit installed. It will do it in all gears after I have had it floored for about 3 to 5 seconds.... just kind of slow to down shift I thought.

You said you have a shift kit right?? Doesn't it have full manual control?? As in if the shifter is in second it will stay in second no matter what?? Does it do this in any other gear?? I really am not familiar with shift kits or anything, but I remember hearing about this..
John

Yes it does have full manual control and it will stay in any gear I put it in...... it does it in all gears (except first obviously) is just takes forever for it to down shift unless I do it myself... that's why I was wondering if I did somthing wrong during the install or if it's just crazy like that.
